I just got back from a weekend's stay in Hajduszoboszlo, at the Kristaly Hotel. Therefore, as I always write my reviews, I'll start with the hotel, and work my way to the rest :)) :||||1. Hotel - quite decent:||* location - about 5 minutes` walk to the entrance of the Hungarospa lido and main street with all the restaurants and stores. It's a quite place, the street being away form the main road. ||* building & surroundings - building was nice, tidy inside and out. The outside yard (actually the parking lot) is quite small and crowded - and no amenities are present as relaxation area There are 2 tables and a few stacked-up plastic chairs, but you wouldn't want to sip your coffee out here :( ||* rooms - quite big and spacious (for 2 adults), with simple, basic furniture, very clean - exactly what you'd need for a few days' stay. Not all rooms have a balcony, and I think (I'm not sure, you should check when booking your room) that rooms with a balcony come at a slightly higher price. Some rooms face the street, others the side alleys and the back of the building. ||* reception staff - very friendly, willing to help. We arrived before check in (12pm) and left much later after check out time (10am), and we could leave our luggage locked in the office on the ground floor. ||* restaurant staff - well..they answered our hello, that's a plus. But they looked quite bored half the time and even irritated at dinner time when too many guests filled the dining room. Helpful, however, when we asked something. ||* breakfast food - ok, served as a Swedish buffet. Freshly baked bread, selection of ham, sausages and cheese, the same omelette every morning (which grows cold, because the heated tray in which they keep it is not so heated, actually), butter, jam, fruit (apples and plums), milk and cereal, tea and some kind of chemical juice. What is quite unnerving is the fact that they do NOT have coffee for breakfast. There is a kind of...coffee-like brownish powder, but if you mix it with hot water, your so-called "coffee" becomes a grainy brown water - completely undrinkable. The best part is that if you really want a good coffee, you can buy it at the bar near the reception. We chose to have lattes at one of the terraces on the main street :). ||* dinner food - ok also. This is a fix menu, served to you at the table. The first night you have dinner, they give you a piece of paper, from which you must select the dinner dish for the next night (from 2 options)..and so on. But the food is good, well cooked. ||* services - nothing special. There is a sauna and a so-called "relaxation area" in the basement, but while we were there, the sauna was out of order. The entire relaxation area consists of 2 sun beds (put in a basement?). No Wifi available. Parking is available for a extra, small fee. ||||2. Hajduszoboszlo||* as a resort - quite nice, famous in Hungary for the thermal water springs, which actually make up the entire attraction of it. It's actually a small town, enriched with tourists. There is a main street where everybody walks at night, full of restaurants and shops, but nothing out of the ordinary. The main thing to do here is the Hungarospa lido, which is made up of 3 parts: the actual lido, the Aqua Park and the Aqua Palace - which I will describe below. ||* prices - quite reasonable. Make sure you study the HUF bills with attention, because they are almost the same in color, and same size. You can easily confuse the 1,000 bill with the 10,000 - which is not quite smart :) You can eat an amazing gulas for 1360huf, coke-like drinks are between 290-350huf, beer 450huf, pizza 1200-1500huf. Entrance prices for the lido are below. If you need a supermarket, choose Coop Szuper. ||||3. The Hungarospa lido - the entire facility covers many hundreds of square feet and enlists several facilities. ||* the main lido (entrance fee of 2000huf/adult/day) - you have everything you need here: dress cabins (1000huf/day), where you can leave all your belongings under locked key / sun beds (600huf) / umbrellas (300huf/day) / safety deposit boxes (400huf) / showers / restrooms / etc. There are large tree-covered areas where you can camp on the grass, benches, alleys and small fountains for drinkable water. You have as many pools as you can desire, with water temperatures varying from cold to very warm and different depts. There are huge jacuzzi-like pools, with built-in areas to sit down, so that the water my go up to your neck and you can enjoy the hot bubbles, children's pools, regular pools with warm water, one Olympic-size pool for swimming, etc,etc (I've lost track of all of them). You can find ice cream and drink stands everywhere, a large selection of restaurants and fast foods (you have to try the cheese and sour cream langos, the mini-fank and the kurtoskalacs). ||* the Aqua Park (entrance fee 5200huf) - all kinds of rides, for kids and grownups. There is am extreme area of the park, only for grownups and kids above a certain height. Loads of fun here. ||* the Aqua Palace (entrance fee 3600huf) - you have all kinds of theme pools, which evoke different areas of the world and different periods in time. There are saunas, kids world, a medical center (for thermal treatments), and a sports area. ||||All in all, Hajdu is a very nice place for a weekend getaway (4 hours by car from Cluj-Napoca), in summer or winter. I wouldn't chose it for an extended holiday though, because there's nothing much to do in town. However, if you're not from around, you can visit Debrecen (30-40min by car), a nice city quite close, and Budapest, the capital - but that's a little bit...
