This was my first trip to Daman, and Gold Beach resort did not disappoint me. It is a squeky clean place.. from reception to room to restaurants and common restrooms, it is maintained spotlessly clean. I had my room clean by room service in my presence on two days, and I was impressed with the level of care they took to make my room clean. They cleaned the tiniest of spots and food fleks etc. that my 3 yr old had managed to make, including those that had gone under the bed and tables, and that too without me having to point them out.
Food is slightly on the expensive side but it is worth the money. Contrary to some reviews I had read earlier, the breakfast had a wide variety of menu and it was tasty. Sea food seems little too expensive but taste and quality was good. Chicken dishes were yummy.
While the bar menu mentions too many choices, not all of them are available when you order. Mojito tasted bit too lemony so I stuck to beer for rest of my stay. Perhaps the only negative I could find.
Amenities are plenty and all are functional. Top floor gym offers a great view of sea and hotel property. Swimming pool is clean although like most hotel swimming pools, smells of clorine. A pool boy is always present to help out with floats for kids or beach towels.
Lobby and room corridors are always filled with instrumental music.
Spa has only female staff for massage, for both male and female customers, so that was a put off for me, though I am sure it could be a positive in someone else's book. There are two restaurants mainly, an AC one and an open air one. Open air restaurant is covered with a roof and offers a great Sea side view. We spoke to their cheff to order a custom made food for our kid and he helped us out without a fuss.
Finally, rooms. All pool facing rooms offer sea view also. Specially those on first floor. Make sure you ask for pool facing rooms and that too on first floor. The view is very good including sunset. All rooms, pool facing or otherwise, are spacious and well maintained. All in-room amentities were functioning and room service was prompt.
The entire staff, from front desk reception to vallets and restaurant waiters to geniters are well groomed, friendly and courteous. We made couple of requests for my 3 yr old, and they readily helped us out. So full marks here too.
They offer a loyalty program too, which provides special discounted rates on room bookings as well as food. So if you fancy visiting Daman multiple times (which means you live on dry state of Gujarat) then this resort is a...
Read moreBooking: We booked the room online through the hotel website and it was simple to navigate and complete the booking . Discounted rate was available (not sure when this is made available) for online bookings. Got messages for confirmation/reminder/check-in/check-out seamlessly.
Note: While booking we found out that many hotels in Daman were sold out (Feb still being an odd season). We found out after reaching Daman that was due to destination weddings (which is quite popular). No idea if Gold Beach Resort permits destination weddings, but do check in advance to avoid chaos
Check-in: The reception staff was warm and friendly. Check-in was a breeze and the staff provided all the details about the resort (timings for pool, gym, kids room, lunch, dinner time etc). Ample parking is available within the resort premises
Room: As we booked late, all sea-facing rooms were sold out. We were allotted pool facing rooms and they were quite good (all-though you don't quite get the feeling of being on the beach). Room was equipped with modern fittings including the bathroom fittings and did not show any signs of wear-&-tear. Bedding and linens were quite comfortable as per out liking. The sound-proofing was quite good (there were 2 karaoke's going nearby, but there was minimal sound in the room).
Amenities: The pool area is quite clean and we could see it being cleaned frequently. The pool itself is neatly maintained in-spite of a pool-side bar (and lots of folks eating and drinking besides the pool). The gym is functional (with an awesome view) and has enough equipment to do full-fledged workouts. Kids zone has enough activities to keep your kids busy. WiFi was decent (even in rooms)
Food: Tasty with more than enough variety. Service was okay (however, the load was quite low). Breakfast had lot of variety and the food was palatable (nothing extra-ordinary)
Misc: The resort is located on the main road of Devka beach and very easy to locate. It is quite less jazzy than other resorts nearby. The beach itself is quite a let-down. You can do tandem biking (tandem bikes are available just across the main gate) or go to Mirasol lake (enjoyable for kids) which is quite nearby
Overall: Nicely maintained place. And it does live up to...
Read moreI write from the perspective of a person that has run a 60 room full-service establishment with a multi-tasking and very versatile team in South Delhi for 8 years:
Stayed with family, 3N, Diwali time, two rooms.
The Front Desk: Satisfactory service. Slightly mechanical answers. I felt that there was a slight rush to push in the well-memorized answer even before understanding the question! Can be taken with a pinch of salt, depending upon the age of the employee and the training. Certain staff need more training than others, in terms of what words to choose and why one should not use gesticulation when handing over a client to one's colleague.
The Room: Good Size... Maybe 300 sq ft plus. My rooms, faced the wall of the Miramar Resort. No view. Not much to complain as I don't care either.
The F&B: Didn't try 1961. The coffee shoppe needs more fans / better air circulation... being open air has its disadvantages when it is still.
Chef Vijay was most cooperative with my recipe as I was on a severely restricted diet. I have spent about 15 years in Gujarat so i understand the tastes of the locals...Gujaratis and Kathiawaris... but sugar in Dal Makhni and in Paneer is an abso NO. Not to a person from Delhi, at least. Sambar can be sweet if using the Karnataki Recipe but not Andhra or TN
Saumya was most understanding and very prompt in the business of order taking.
Housekeeping: Excellent. This is the back bone of the hotel. Pintu was excellent in service delivery, communications and understanding requests. He can be easily groomed for a post in the Front Office / Guest Relations.. 7 years and an easy FOM.
One food complaint is the portion size. I have run an establishment where I charged premium prices, but I know there is a neat profit to be made if one so desires. The objective should be to please the guest while making money, not inducing regret...Charge 50/- more on the 515 for dimsum, but increase the quantity from 8 to 12. I know my food costs.
They do very well on the dimsum...They can purchase better quality Chicken for the Tandoori Version. (too small)
The hotel did not have a lunch or dinner buffet on my trip. I don't mind that either.
This hotel is good... can be...
