Stayed here for 3 nights in room Sahasrara.
I arrived mid afternoon. The hotel was not hard to find, but difficult to work out how to enter. Eventually, I just unlocked the gate myself and entered to find that there was no staff on reception. It took about a minute of calling out before one of the staff made an appearance. After that check in was straightforward.
The room I got was a 4 bed dorm with 2 metal frame bunk beds, a kitchen which was not usable, an ensuite bathroom and a fan. The bathroom is basic, but is clean, functional with a shower and sink. There was no problem getting hot water any time of the day as the bathroom had its own separate hot water heater. The bathroom had no tissue paper, but had a geyser which was fine. When in Rome and all that. The room was on the second floor of the building accessible via a steep flight of stairs and there's no lift. Not a problem for me, but would be for anyone with mobility issues. There are rooms on the ground floor though. All the windows in the room had mosquito screen and I never once got bitten in the dorm which is impressive.
The bunk bed cam with its own power socket and a personal light. Although the personal light on my bunk was actually broken. The mattress on the bed not typical Indian/Asian style. It was a soft, spring mattress that sagged the middle and pretty uncomfortable to sleep on as I could feel the springs.
The WiFi works well except in the Sahasrara dorm itself. The signal in the room is too weak for a smartphone, although it's good enough for a laptop. The WiFi is accessible from the common area on the second floor or the rest of the hotel.
Location wise, the hotel is about 25 minutes walk from Mysore junction railway station. Although the local buses are available from the railway station and stop about 5 minutes walk to the hotel. The hotel is also located in an upmarket area of Mysore and there's lots of western style food outlets, several of them a minute from the hotel and many more 15 minutes walk away.
Overall, I had a pleasant and enjoyable stay in Zostel. The staff were great, the hostel is nice and comfortable with lots of common areas. The only reason for 4 stars is the mattress, which was a major issue for me and the Wifi signal, which was more of a minor...

Read moreLocating Zostel is a piece of cake, as it is less than three and five kilometers away from the railway station and the bus stand accordingly. The locality is very safe with just about all types of eateries around it. The rooms are named according the Ashtanga yoga chakras, very thought provoking. The people who run the zostel are very fun loving and vibrant hosts, with just about every pinch of flavours of hospitality in them. For exploring the city, they are a good bunch of people to guide and also take you around on request, when on enquiring you may find out the local way of enjoying the season. Such as driving/riding up the Chamundi hill late evening and having the hot hot bajjis and going to the best eat out spaces in Mysore. This place makes sure you forget your phone and relax with the awesome view of garden and terrace settings. The colourfulness of the interiors make you very active which in turn gives way for the child in you to jump at the board games present at the living room space. Their chef has a good understanding of taste and presentation which makes you want to eat their more! The menu is very proffesional and you might want to try out their qwerky beverages. Other than this, there are two cute kittens( now) who are very entertaining to watch which make you forget your worrries for the day, that is if the place let’s you have any. Last but not least the house has three coconut trees growing through them, which was the main attraction for me. If you are a solo female traveller like me, you are sure to find good company here and make your...
