Hotel RT Hill View — Hotel in Kodaikanal

PLEASE AVOID. If you have booked a room, cancel it, and shift somewhere else. It's an Oyo masquerading as a 3 star. My "mountain view" suite room was given to someone else, and the Suite room left was totally shady, with the view of a neighbouring dirty place. So, totally avoid if the booking site says that those are the last rooms left. This is the room which you will be allocated. Also, the manager refused refund for shifting us to a Triple bedroom! I am just thankful to Agoda for a brilliant customer service where they cancelled the suite without any charges.

I will start with the positives. The bathroom fittings are Kohler. It's a 5 minute walk to the lake, if you take the market steep uphill shortcut. There is one staff who is prompt and will do whatever is in his control (Bringing drinking water, fixing the TV which didn't have a signal). But, good luck catching him!

Negatives: No hot water. The geyser doesn't work. After half a bucket of luke warm water, the water turns cold. When I asked for a bucket of hot water, the manager refused! This was the tipping point for me. The "hill" view is of the next room or restaurant. They showed me 3 rooms. None of them had a hill view. The triple bedroom atleast didn't have a neighbouring dirty place view. So, we shifted there. The locality around is very poor. I didn't feel like taking the walk till the lake as well. From the full lake bicycle ride that we did, the side from Sterling Kodai lake is cleaner. But, it will be farther from the municipal lake house. But, it will be totally worth it. Rent a bicycle for Rs.50 instead and cycle around the lake to whichever place you want to go to. Rooms are not maintained. You can see very old furniture in place. The bedsheets had stains on them. Bathroom doesn't have even a soap holder. Manager said he will have to buy one! The bathroom window is dirty and that's the only place to keep the soaps and shampoo. Felt like a Dharamshala! Room phones don't work. If you need anything, there will be noone dedicatedly at the reception as well. And as others have pointed out, there is no restaurant. Also, avoid the breakfast provided by them. It's not nice. Go outside and have breakfast as well around the lake.

"Exceptional treatment"

We booked this hotel for our Dasara holidays stay in Kodaikanal mainly based on its rating on Goibibo & TripAdvisor. And it is a unique little gem, really. We have stayed at many hotels over the years, often luxury ones with impeccable details and fantastic designs. Price-wise R T Hill View is on par with these better-class hotels. R T Hill View is mid luxury place a new hotel ..Yet, in their 2 year from now, I’m sure we will still fondly remember the vacation we had there. It is the perceptive and friendly service that makes it worthwhile staying in this hotel. The Mangers and staff are social at just the right level and they go to great length to make you feel at home.

Even my Co Brother family, who joined the tirp, was received with open arms and exceptionally generously when they came to visit. The Manger - Mr Vijay even offered us a Best Price deal on booking our stay..

This said, there is nothing wrong with the facilities. The room we had was spacious and pretty, the breakfast is good is Unlimited. The garden may be small, but it’s a relaxing and quiet place – one where you really don’t mind spending an photo section .. And as many people have written before. Just putting some facts. Good or bad is a decision the management of RT Hill view needs to make, and the reader of this review needs to make.

The good: Located a few 100 meters from the lake Just an year old

The not so good: Overall fun aspect. Nothing really to do. No gardens, No fun areas. Discolored water - Open the tap to get brown colour water. When we complained to the staff we were told that this was across Kodaikanal as it came from common reservoir. [Not true, other hotels had clean water] Short Staffed - With over 30+ rooms, they had a very small staff. I could count only about 6-8 people on staff. Unpleasant Start - We were offered a room that was not ready. Bathroom had no ceiling, telephone wires were open, paint was coming off. Upon request (an argument) we were offered a stay in "Suite room" [ The balcony here was good] Eating options - Breakfast was okay. Didn't try room service as it was non vegetarian. No Veg hotels nearby. Closest is Tava vegetarian (1 km). No Room service - Despite leaving the key at the reception for room to be cleaned, and returning 2 hours later nothing had changed in the room.
