I had booked a Royal Deluxe Room with bathtub & balcony, expecting a premium stay at what is advertised online as a 4-star hotel. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing, and in reality, this property does not deserve more than a 3-star rating at best.
Here are the major issues I faced:
Property & Room Condition:
The hotel is very old, with outdated infrastructure. The lift is an old model with a wooden door and grill gate.
The so-called “Royal Deluxe” room was no better than a standard room. The door used traditional keys, not auto-lock or card access.
Paint on the walls was peeling, and the washroom was extremely small.
The bathtub was old, unclean, and poorly maintained.
Cleanliness & Hygiene:
The biggest shock was finding 3 cockroaches on the bed when I returned at night. This is completely unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one claiming to be 4-star.
Staff & Management Behaviour:
On checkout, when I raised these concerns, the so-called manager and even the “owner” showed no sense of hospitality.
Their response to the cockroach complaint was: “You should have called us at that time, otherwise how will we know?” – As a guest, I am here to relax, not inspect the hotel and report pests so they can come and clean! Basic hygiene should already be maintained.
They were rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional in their tone.
Extra Charges & Checkout Experience:
For just 2 extra hours, they demanded ₹2,500, even though the hotel was empty and no other guest was waiting for my room.
I was having food at their restaurant before checkout, which they allowed. But after the meal, when I went to the room for only 20 minutes to wrap up, they questioned me: “Why did it take 20 minutes?”
This shows their lack of understanding of basic customer service.
Misleading Information Online:
The hotel charges high prices under the banner of being a 4-star with “luxury rooms,” but in reality, neither the room quality, cleanliness, nor service justifies it.
I genuinely doubt the authenticity of the positive reviews online, as my experience was far from what is shown.
Final Verdict: I do not recommend this hotel, especially for families, women, and kids. The poor hygiene, unprofessional staff, and misleading claims make it completely unworthy of the price charged. If you are a group of bachelors and can adjust to anything, maybe it will work for you. But for a comfortable, hygienic, and professional stay – this hotel is not the...

Food: It took them over an hour to prepare what we had ordered, and there was no one else in the restaurant at the time. The server didn't have gloves on and his finger was dipped inside the gravy ordered when he came to serve. We ordered some chicken starter and the entirety of the dish was rubbery and inedible. For breakfast buffet, the cornflakes and chocos they served were soft and not fresh, as if they were a very old batch or even expired. The poha had literally black burnt peanuts in them. The idli was hard and not very fresh. Everything that was atleast edible was too under-seasoned and tasteless. Update: just saw they have listed breakfast as free in their amenities here on Google. IT WAS NOT FREE.
Room service: The kettle kept in the room was broken. We weren't given basic tea/coffee supplies or water refills or even cups unless we asked. Even after asking, they brought it after almost 5 hours.
Room: There was no hot water for the shower for a day. Overall, the room was clean atleast.
Game room: They have listed "game room" everywhere on their adverts, but it didn't exist. It was under renovation/maintenance. They didn't even transfer the pool table or table tennis table anywhere which makes me question if they even had it in the first place.
Swimming pool: It was not very clean, cloudy water and leaves/feathers/insects. After being told, they cleaned the pool but water was still not very clear.
Over all, I would not recommend this...
Read moreThis was my first time at Mayur Retreat and man, it was so good! Everything from the rooms, to the location, service and food was brilliant! Absolutely value for money! Had come here tired and stressed but going back happy and rejuvenated! Major Pharma companies have their quarterly meets here, so you can understand the level of service that is provided! Special mention of Mr Malhari Ozarkar, Badal and Amol and the complete staff at Mayur Retreat who took special care to see if we needed anything from time to time! Very centrally located in Lonavla which is a plus so that you have everything at walking distance. We didn't have transport of our own, hence this was a big advantage. We stayed in a Royal Deluxe room which can easily accommodate 3 people. Room was very clean and spacious! The bathtub in the Royal Deluxe Room is nice and big (2 people can easily fit) unlike many other hotels. Hot water was available 24/7. Basic toiletries and clean towels were provided everyday. The balcony is spacious and has a great view! The beds were soft and so comfortable, I was literally in bed for most of the time! The swimming pool is clean and well maintained-much needed for a summer holiday! And oh yes, the food (most important for a foodie like me) was just wonderful! Really tasty and finger-licking good especially the soups and Indian curries! We tried pakodas and sandwiches also and were not disappointed!
All in all- a value for money property, definitely...
