As a Gold Member of The Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty, my recent stay was a combination of luxury, scenic beauty, and some truly disappointing service experiences. While the property itself is undeniably stunning and offers a sense of grandeur, the guest service — at least from certain staff members — failed to live up to the standards expected from such a reputed name.||||The hotel’s location is truly breathtaking, and my spacious, elegantly appointed Marine Drive View room overlooked the tranquil backwaters of Vembanad Lake, offering a view that was nothing short of enchanting. As evening descended, I took a leisurely stroll to the Grand Lounge, where I savored unlimited coffee alongside delicious traditional Kerala snacks like banana fritters and ela ada from the charming tea shop—a memorable experience that perfectly captured the region’s authentic flavors and warmth.||||At dark the swimming pool shimmered like a sapphire under the fading light, adding to the irresistible charm of my stay that evening, I lingered by its edge, watching the sun slowly melt into the horizon, painting the sky in hues of gold and crimson. A cool breeze caressed my skin, carrying with it the scent of the waters, and in that moment, time seemed to pause. The night felt magical, and the atmosphere was peaceful and soothing. ||||After a refreshing bath and a change into comfortable evening attire, I took a leisurely walk to the Bar at the Clubhouse & Grill. The gentle ambience was the perfect prelude to dinner at the Clubhouse restaurant, where I savored the delicate and inviting flavors of fine Italian cuisine, each dish crafted with elegance and care.||||The next morning waking to the tender embrace of the sunrise over Vembanad Lake, with delicate drizzles weaving a soft, romantic veil, was nothing short of magical from my spacious, gracefully appointed room, the morning unfolded like a beautiful painting—golden rays gently piercing the mist, while the rain softly whispered secrets to the earth outside. This serene moment set the tone for a day filled with tranquility and wonder. The Kerala-style breakfast was a true delight—an exquisite array of authentic flavors, fresh and vibrant, served in an ambiance that felt as warm and inviting as a heartfelt embrace, making my morning a sensory celebration.||||Unfortunately, these beautiful moments were overshadowed by my interactions with some of the staff, especially at the reception. Let me clarify — not all of them were discourteous. Some were helpful and friendly, but a few individuals, frankly, did not belong in a luxury hospitality environment. They seemed indifferent, disinterested, and at times outright unhelpful. On more than one occasion, when I approached them with a question, instead of answering, they would simply point towards someone else and walk away. They never replay emails or never call while request for a callback forcing me to follow up again myself. This kind of behavior is unacceptable at any hotel, let alone one of the Hyatt’s stature. It made me feel undervalued as a guest, despite being a paying customer and a loyalty program member.||||Another point of disappointment was the so-called “complimentary” perks that came with my one-year membership — namely, a 2 kg cake and a bottle of wine. While these were said as complimentary, but claim them by presenting a bill of ₹2,000 each for the cake and wine. I fail to understand how something with conditions and spending requirements can be called complimentary. The cake I finally received was the worst I have ever tasted — dry, flavorless, and far from the quality expected from a 5-star establishment. Thankfully, they didn’t impose the same conditions for the complimentary breakfast, so at least I could enjoy that without additional expense.||||In conclusion, The Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty is a visually beautiful property that offers a luxurious setting and a memorable natural backdrop. The accommodation and facilities were worth the price in terms of space, comfort, and ambience. However, the disappointing attitude of some staff members and misleading membership benefits left a sour impression on an otherwise pleasant stay. Unless the management works on staff training and ensures that their loyalty benefits are genuinely complimentary, guests may hesitate to return.||When approached for membership renewal, I declined — not because the stay was entirely unsatisfactory, but because I felt it was a one-time...
Read moreGrand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty: beautiful villas, world-class facilities but shockingly poor service.
We stayed in one of the Grand Hyatt Kochi’s exclusive 2,500 sq. ft. villa cottages -stunning design, beautiful facilities, state of the art gym, spa and pool. But all of that was completely overshadowed by the shocking lack of service standards.
No proactive care: Not a single manager or supervisor checked in with us during our stay. Even when we made it clear in the guest WhatsApp group that we had feedback to share, nobody responded. The “guest relations” head in charge of our villa sent my husband a private message but lost all interest the moment he said his wife (me) would be giving the detailed feedback. She never followed up, never approached me and selectively engaged only one family member. This is unprofessional and unacceptable for any five-star property.
Housekeeping failures: Dishes were cleared but tables never wiped. Spilled food on the table and floor was ignored. Staff lacked basic attention to detail and didn’t follow instructions even after being repeatedly informed. On one occasion they even managed to drop all the food on floor in the way to our villa.
In-room dining chaos: We had clearly communicated our dietary requests (only ghee or butter, no vegetable oils and red meat available for all meals) before booking. Yet, multiple times we were told dishes weren’t possible until we demanded to speak to the chef, who confirmed they actually could cook the way we want. Staff answering the phone were misinformed and not aligned with the kitchen.
4)Minibar embarrassment: For a villa priced at presidential-suite levels, the minibar contained only a couple of nut packets. At checkout, we were asked if we had consumed anything - ironic, since there was nothing stocked in the first place.
6)No follow-up on left items: Personal belongings (including shoes) were left behind. No one called to check if they were forgotten or intentionally left. Even budget hotels have this basic courtesy.
The villa itself is extraordinary. But what is the point of having such a beautiful property if the staff and service are stuck at a three-star level? Paying a premium for a villa of this size and elegance means the service should also be five-star. Instead, what we got was indifference, poor training, selective communication and zero accountability.
We visit Kochi often - two to three times a year and had planned to return every couple of months, staying either in these villas or the presidential suites. But after this experience, we are seriously reconsidering. Until Hyatt invests in staff training, hygiene and guest care, this property will remain nothing more than a five-star shell with...
Read moreHyatt, despite its beauty, disappoints us in numerous aspects, from the check-in process to the overall stay. Staff seem to just do their work but aren't concerned about customer experiences.
Check-in: At the time of check-in, I was told the room wasn't ready, and it's fair, and we agreed and decided to step out for a few hours, and when we returned, the staff was clueless, and the staff went bizarre trying to find the room that was allotted to me.
Confused Staff: To locate the booking, one of the staff members asked me, May I see your booking? And since the booking number is long, I handed over my phone, and voila, my booking was finally found, and the lady said, Let's help you move to your room, and she had conveniently forgotten that my phone was on the check-in counter, and I was like, May I get my phone back!
While I was waiting, another lady appeared. How is your stay at Hyatt? I hope you are enjoying I was surprised, and I had to politely say I am yet to get my room. Clearly, the hotel management gave a list of questions for the staff to ask, and they kept repeating them regardless of the situation.
We wanted to attend high tea, and since it was paid, we asked at the time of check-in to reserve, and with a subpar experience, we changed our minds and decided not to go ahead, and we conveyed the same over the phone. We got a call saying the boat is waiting for you at the jetty, so I went to reception to avoid being charged for what we didn't choose. They informed us that there was no charge yet! Are you idiotic? And the person asked, Are you not on board for high tea? I realized the staff does not understand English, or are they smoking something? This realization became particularly evident after I informed them that I had not gone for high tea, after repeatedly saying we did not want to go and we had mentioned we were not interested.
There are also some fun activities like kayaking, and I was told we just go down and give the room number for making use of the kayaking activity, and when I went to the kayaking place we were told, the kayaking is only from morning 6 am to 9 am, but I said your brochure read 9 am to 6 pm, and the person got intimidated and said, Let's go to the office and check, and then I was told kayaking is available, but you need to pre-book as the lifeguard is not available always. Should the check-in concierge not be aware of the booking process, as this was all a part of the hotel, as we were misguided and eventually we had no option but to skip!
I ordered a cappuccino, and they took 25-plus minutes to get a cup of coffee, and I was told the machine is not working, and the funny thing is the Grand Hyatt does not have two coffee machines in a hotel that charges 15k a night.
Food:
Their Thai restaurant does not did not have à la carte menu as it was a buffet for Eid! Come on, you can have both; give customers the option to choose. We ended up in another restaurant, and the food was decent—nothing to complain about.
Breakfast is average, nothing to really rave about or get excited about.
If you want a positive experience and something memorable, this is not the place you should look for. It’s a total waste of time and money. There are better places you can stay and have a good,...
