A nice place for Solo travellers. I believe the ambience and hospitality of Bombay backpackers is unparalleled, I was there for 4 days, staff was helpful, no disturbance and good food along with dedicated dorm rooms of 6 beds and 8 beds. No separate female dorms. There are 3 washrooms and in which 2 are common. There are bed boxes so one can secure their luggage in it regardless you should bring your own lock, toiletries, towel, slippers. A good and inexpensive laundry service is offered. There is aqua-guard, induction, washing machine, drying area and iron table. The hostel has a common room and free internet, which was largely dependent on the numerous power cuts (not the fault of the hostel but the city municipality) that happened as to whether it was working. Mostly foreign nationalities are there and it's so awesome to interact with them over a game of junk or like playing guitar and signing together. Thanks for a dedicated living room for that, for smokers there is a smoke room too and the bathroom are also very very good, hygienic, and clean all the time. The best part was the theme of the dorm which resembles the typical Mumbai streets and food. The hostel recommends a good takeaway service from a restaurant nearby. I recommend the afghan mutton and special rice! Its within 20 minutes walk of the Train Station (Kurla), just time the use of the train when it isn't rush hour as the trains get packed very quickly and sometimes dangerously so. Major food outlets like burger king and McDonald's are 5 min walking from there (Bandra Kurla complex) Located just opposite to the equinox business centre so no problem in...
Read moreWe had a horrible experience at Mumbai Backpackers. Upon arriving at Mumbai backpackers we were not able to find the building as there is no signage and instead had to guess that 'bombay rooms' was the correct place. First of all they did not have our booking and tried to charge us again (we had already paid online). Then after much deliberation they showed us to our room. We walked up stairs past old and crumbling hallways and had to step over a dog and a filthy mattress to get to the door. Inside the room there were no curtains (would have been impossible to sleep), a mattress that may as well have not been there as it was only a few cms thick and hard as a rock. The bathroom was just filthy, the toilet looked as though it had never been cleaned and the floor was one that would just would not walk on. We complained to the hotel but they did nothing. Needless to say we did not stay there and immediately booked another hotel. We knew this is a budget hotel and hotels aren't very clean in India, but this was just...
Read moreI had a 3 night stay at this hostel. The best part are some of the guests staying here long term. Wifi is great. Breakfast was ok. Location is not great but the shopping mall nearby is the best in the city! Cleanliness is questionable. The room (taxidorm 6 person) I stayed in was essentially a wide hallway/corridor that people used to pass through to get to the common area.
Staff, namely Sanjee is great.
Train (10INR) is a 10 minute walk and the street to walk to Kurla station is chaotic. Many Buses (20INR) 30ltd, 25ltd, 22ltd, 7ltd run by the front door of this hostel that (20INR) will drop you off close to all the museums and India gate.
If arriving in Mumbai to Bandra terminus station I would recommend taking bus 303 or 310. 303 will drop you off 1 block away whilst 310 will drop you off right in front...
