We chose this hotel because they advertise free wifi in rooms. However, wifi is only available in the tiny lobby area with no privacy, comfort or quiet. ||||The hotel is in a hard to find part of South Mumbai, with no tourist attractions or tourist friendly shops or restaurants in the surrounding neighborhoods or within walking distance. ||||We booked online and got a room for $22USD/night, the hotel card advertises rooms starting at $50, however the $22 we paid was already way overpriced for what the rooms are. The rooms are very basic, with very small but functional bathrooms, they are well air conditioned and cable tv is available. Unfortunately, the room we stayed in had bed bugs, which is a first for us during all our travels throughout SE Asia and South America. Not only that, we were also woken at 3am by something walking over our legs on the bed. We sprung up and turned the lights on to see a cheeky mouse staring at us from beside the pillow; which was also a first for us...||||While the service was quite good and they tried hard to accommodate, we got the feeling that they were just pushing for tips and extra money by insisting we use their "private car" (taxi from the street that are priced much higher than one you can hail yourself - they obviously get a cut).||||Mumbai is obviously a pricey city to stay in with not too many budget accommodation options. I would suggest spending a little bit more for a room in a better area with more creature comforts.. and a lot...
Read moreIf you are a survivor in every sense of the word, then this is a good place to save a few bucks in a expensive place like Mumbai.|Only 1 floor of rooms; the room is no bigger than a Govt. hospital room (minus the space taken up by the patient bed!), and it was clean in a 'general' sense, with an even smaller, but functional bathroom. A/c worked fine, cable TV too, WiFi showed good signal strength in the rooms but had some general (?) connectivity problem, the intercom was dead and the door lock wasn't strong enough. Complimentary breakfast (for us) was 4 slices of bread with an omelette and tea/coffee. Service was relatively prompt.|The only plus about this establishment, in my personal opinion, is the location. Its right in the middle of Dongri market - good place to experience the local life and cuisine. Its more or less of a flea market - roadside kebabs & snacks, lassi, vegetarian eat-outs, local biriyani, its all there.||Not recommended for families with kids because of the room size.|(And yes, we also did come across cockroaches; but just 2 which were limited to...
Read moreServiceable, if you can overlook roaches, a thick diesel smell, a room that needs fumigation and a neighborhood that looks a little sketchy at night. Breakfast, too, was next to nonexistent--tea and three buttered slices of bread, which took forty minutes to get. No real hot water to speak of. I can overlook all that, and at that, this is a very affordable option in Mumbai. 1300 with tax, etc, not too far out of the city center, and a staff that were cheerful and attentive. ||||In short, most of the things that can go wrong with a budget hotel did. On the other hand, the staff scurried to run errands and bring me food when I showed up at midnight on the first night--so it's that kind of place.||||Hotel New Deepak is a stone's throw from the red light district, though I didn't see any evidence of that kind of activity anywhere around.||||The inhouse "rate card" is talking about 2500-3500 a night for "Executive" room [ie 8'x12' ac single], which is outrageous. 12-1300 is...
