I stayed in J-Hotel for three nights with my family of 10 adults and 4 kids - 5 rooms. We booked the hotel based on trip advisor reviews, however were disappointed with our stay. The only good thing about the hotel is its location. Most tourist attractions in portblair are at walking distance from here.
Here are some major lowlights:
We never got hot water in shower. This wasn't just in one room but in all 5 rooms. When we asked the staff, they came to the room with a heating rod and asked us to heat a bucket of water and then have shower - and then share it with other rooms - Imagine how long this will take 10 adults and 4 kids including infants to get ready next morning. I asked when hot water will be available, the answer was not today, not tomorrow morning, but later sometime tomorrow with no sign of remorse. When we went at talked with the receptionist, after much convincing that we need hot water next day early morning they assured us that we will get it by next morning. Somehow we managed one day with cold water. Next day I woke up early as I had to catch ferry to Havelock at 8. Nothing had changed. Again the staff came upstairs with a heating rod. May be I should have shoved it back in their *. Pardon me for my language, but that is how frustrated I was when clock was ticking and I had to shower in cold water early in morning at 6:00. And the staff was literally heartless, as if they didn't care at all. I explicitly mentioned that I will write their review on tripadvisor, but still I couldn't appeal to their hospitality.
Rooms were filthy. Not clean at all. The bathroom in my room stank, and my parents had to change the room after one night due to strong mold smell.
We booked executive suite for our parents and deluxe for rest of us. Surprisingly the only difference between executive and deluxe suite is extra 3 sq m of floor area. And ofcourse approx Rs.1000 price difference. We purposely tried to find for difference between the two suites, but couldn't find any difference except the Rs1000 price. And of course the executive suite had mold in it so my parents had to change the room next day. So basically we paid extra Rs.1000 for 3 sq m of extra floor area and mold.
Now the restaurant: Highlight is that food is amazing - kudos to the chefs in kitchen. The serving staff was however rude. They made us sit from 8:30pm to 10:00pm to get our food. And can someone teach them that Starters are supposed to be served before main course and not after main course. Imagine entire dinner - From drinks, soups, starters to main course served together after 1hr 30 mins of waiting since we gave our order. The attitude of staff was again the same - they didn't care about the guests - as if they were doing to favor on us by serving us food.
The only reason we continued to stay here as because no other hotels were available during the peak season. Be careful before you book your stay with J-Hotel. I will strongly advise my friends and relatives to...
Read moreMy company offered me a few options and I decided on Mirador due to proximity to Solitaire Corporate Park.
From day 1 of my stay till 1 week later, I have been only satisfied and impressed.
Roystan from front desk was responsive and very reliable - he delivered what he promised to do and gave timely feedback. I requested early check-in and he didn’t leave me hanging, got back to me timely and gave me an available room quite quickly. Following few days I had to extend my stay and he assisted with the extension promptly along with his colleagues.
Pankaj from concierge is also very professional and responsible in doing his work. Since my office is across the road, I rejected my company to send a car and wanted to dash across the road. Pankaj escorted me every single time when leaving the hotel until I’m safely across.
Housekeeping Ganesh was very sweet and kind, delivered good level of housekeeping standards. I had a small problem (itching during sleep) and they helped me change the sheets again overnight. Also plugged in mosquito repellent device in my room. Ganesh also reminded me to send in my laundry and every time without fail tried to have a conversation - I believe he wants to practise his English so I commend him for that. They know that I need more water and gave me extra bottles every single day without me asking twice. Laundry and housekeeping team (incl Rahul etc sorry I didn’t get everyone’s name) had great smiles and serve from their hearts. I had 2 scares of lost items and found them eventually - hope I didn’t cause any stress to the housekeeping team.
Restaurant food was really good. Not a huge spread like 5 star hotels but good enough variety and options - what I really needed for a one-week long stay. Special mention to the Nepalese chef who is responsible for the oriental dishes - the tastes may not be traditional Chinese tastes from a specific region but he nailed the Chinese style of cooking so I am really excited to try his food every evening. Indian chef was also good, I got to try some new Indian dishes and enjoyed very much.
Also worth mentioning that Umesh is a great service staff at the restaurant, pro active and we had good conversations. He would walk me through the buffet selection and tell me what is good for me or not (due to my gluten free requirement).
Gym facility is basic and dated but good enough to clock in some cardio and weights training.
Room comfort is quite good, I managed to have good rest over the week and ac worked well.
If you want something from the hotel, just say once and you can count it delivered. I am very satisfied with my stay and look forward to the next visit.
I hope the management maintains whatever they are doing, to keep these great team of employees satisfied because they really do take pride in their jobs and serve their guests...
Read moreFraud, do not stay. Called the hotel to book a room, paid money by netbanking. Hotel then called asking to confirm reservation and directed to a fraud UPI website and asked for my UPI OTP. They said that the amount initially charged was incorrect and they want more money. I refused and asked for a refund. They didn't agree. I have called multiple times to complain and get a refund, they laugh and disconnect the phone. Detailed report below:
This hotel has behaved with me in a fraudulent manner when I made my booking today. After sending them the full payment for my room reservation for 6 hours as per discussion with them on telephone as they asked for advance payment, which I sent them through NEFT, another person phoned me after a few minutes that the rate of Rs.2500 told to me was wrong and I will have to pay Rs.6500. This I refused to pay. Then, after a few minutes they telephoned me from a different number asking for my bank account number, the bank's IFSC code and told me that I should scan the QR code which they have sent, and tell them the UPI OTP. I got very suspicious at this and told them I do not want the booking now and asked them to refund the money. A man who said that his name is Rahul told me to send my bank's IFSC code and my account number if I want the refund. I told him that I will not give them any details of my bank account as I have become very suspicious of their behaviour. I asked them to send me the refund by cheque, which thfly flatly refused. I telephoned them again in the evening of the same day asking to refund the money I have paid but the person who also said that his name is Rahul (perhaps he was lying) cut off the phone after a brief discussion. I have decided not to step into this hotel under any circumstances. Asking someone for his bank account details and asking to send OTP after scanning the QR code sent by them is in the nature of cyber crime. I have lost Rs.2500 (two thousand five hundred) but can take consolation in the fact that I could have lost much more. I have also learnt a lesson for the future. It is advisable for the people to be aware of such...
