It was the first time, my wife and I stayed at a Sarovar hotel - the Taurus Samovar Portico. Right from the check-in experience to the room and finally the meals, it was all a big disappointment. One thing is certain, our first time will be the last time. There is no dearth of hotels in Mahipalpur. I had booked a Premium room, which included dinner and breakfast. It also involved a paid one-way trip to the IGI airport close by. But let’s start at the beginning. When we arrived at the hotel, there was no one at the front office / reception, which usually is the front face of any hotel. Finally one lady turned up who told me that she was “upgrading” us - to room 202 that was for some strange reason, on the 1st Floor. The bathroom was stinking, the pot was dirty and the hotel was not able to arrange face tissues. Maybe it was a strange request that they had never heard before. At least the beds looked inviting. While the sheets were clean, the pillows were smelling of hair oil - apparently someone who had used coconut oil had been in this room before. In short, the linen was smelling. Despite double glazing, the traffic noise was very audible. Unfortunately, incessant honking on the street outside was also quite audible at night. As the hotel is right next to the street and the overpass / flyover, the room was noisy. To make matters worse, the switch board front plate in the bathroom and in the room itself, was hanging loose reflecting an indifferent mindset as far as maintenance is concerned. Oh yes, the TV was a challenge for which a “skilled” person from the hotel had to be called. Now for the meals: the plates were greasy and as we were apparently the only guests at dinner, the service took years. The food was okay. Buffet breakfast the next morning had limited options and they forgot to provide a sieve to extract the baked beans out of the liquid in the container. Yes, baked beans was mostly liquid and fare on offer left a lot to be desired. Worst was the taxi the hotel arranged for our “included” airport transfer that had hiked the cost up of the “Premium room” by about a grand. Don’t ask them for a transfer. It’s cheaper to simply book an Ola cab. The cab driver who had been “summoned” by the hotel, dropped us off right at the beginning of the departures lane and was rude to boot. Sorry Taurus Sarovar Portico, never again will I make the mistake of staying at your property. We are not competent enough to put up at such a wonderful property.

Don’t often leave reviews, especially negative ones, but this hotel needs a few more. The hotel is situated on a busy street, which being in the central part of Delhi is expected. From the outside, and front entrance the hotel looks good. But it’s once you get to the check in desk and meet the staff that I was disappointed; they were not very attentive, but friendly enough to engage with. The rooms are dated, and in need of some TLC. We booked 3 rooms as a stop over due to connecting flights being too far apart. The hotel was booked by our Indian business partner, but on arrival they had allocated 2 persons per room. For this trip, we travelled with our 13yr old, a business partner and our eldest and his partner. We got checked in, and explained we needed a 2nd bed for our son. This fell on deaf ears! We went for dinner, expecting our room to be ready with a spare bed, but, disappointment prevailed and we did not have an extra bed. I called the front desk and was told that we had not booked an extra bed, so we could not have one. So, down to reception I went! I was told that we could not have a bed in the room unless we paid 1500 rupees. (it’s inexpensive in English money, but we had already paid for our room, so was not prepared to pay again!) I tried to explain that we had booked, but was greeted by the reply, “it’s your fault, you need to pay more” we were only using the hotel for 8 hrs, so I was not prepared to pay. Informed the front desk I would leave this review, and my god, the real side of the staff member came out! He was rude and just stated that it was our fault and we must pay. In a polite English way, he was told to do one, and our son slept in our bed. After around an hour, a knock at the door and in my boxers, I was greeted by the room staff, who were very polite. They had a mattress and bedding, but owing to now only a few hours of sleep left, and the fact my wife and son were in bed, I declined the offer! Didn’t get much sleep, the hotel is noisy with people coming and going all night. The mattress was uncomfortable and the room was just total pants! If you are planning on booking this hotel, don’t do so until it has had a refurb! We have stayed in far nicer hotels in Delhi, and this just doesn’t hit the mark.

This was the most pathetic hotel in the area. No where close to 4 star standard. We stayed in room 109 and 110, checked in at 12:30 am (the team had ample of time to ensure smooth experience but failed). Here are concerns: Room has pesticide odor, very dirty, small and old rooms with stains and scratches on wall, wood, bathroom accessories. Rooms are pretty small (like highway Dhaba hotels). No hot water in both the rooms, flush wasn’t working. Drainage was a problem and water clogging in basin. Corridor was also filthy with random stuff lying everywhere. When we complained about hot water, they kept saying it’s working but no one (right from maintenance staff till hotel manager) had any ownership to check and fix/give alternative. They were completely shameless and didn’t act at all. The breakfast timing was till 10:30 am but when we reached at 10:15, the labels were removed, some items were unavailable as they were winding up and weren’t ready to serve us even when 15 mins were left (and we had 3 kids who didn’t even have proper sleep due to bad experience after late night checkin). I had to give them warning that I’m going to post video of their attitude on social media and then they gave us a room for bath. Even a 2 star hotel would be much better than this hotel and their staff. Unless you want to spoil your mood, waste time and money both, please don’t come to this hotel. No class at all. Here are some photos but actual condition is worst with no hot water, smelly and filthy rooms and rude/lazy staff.
