I am a Marriott Elite Member & before booking Courtyard we researched all 5 star properties in Amritsar before finally settling on Courtyard as the main reason for selecting the courtyard was the rooftop pool and Bar and Grill. Upon arrival we requested an early Check in which was well honored by Front Desk and we were upsold on the Luxury Suite, we upgraded to Suite for the first 2 nights by paying extra.
After we checked in the Suite, we realized it was not a luxury Suite but a Suite of problems. First we had to make a lot of calls to get all the basic toiletries, toilet paper, mugs, tea, towels which almost took over an hour. Then when we had to use a restroom and shower, the moment I opened the toilet door of the master ensuite, it smelled so bad due the drain leak in the toilet that I almost puked. When someone came in to look into it, he said it would take him 30 minutes to fix it. By this time I was already losing my patience as we were extremely exhausted with the long flight and not prepared for this type of experience especially when we have upgraded to Suite. They didn’t offer any apology or suite transfer. He took 30 minutes to fix the drain and while he was fixing it my wife used the second restroom in the Suite and realized that the flush of that toilet is not working as water is leaking into the toilet. He couldn't fix the flush and left. The bed sheet on the bed had dirt spots which were still kind of wet so called for another bedsheet. In evening we went for dinner buffet and almost every item we ate was barely warm or cold. Next morning breakfast buffet was just amazing. I went to front desk to complain about the bad experience with the Suite. I didn’t get any logical response apart from a cold apology. Upon reaching back to the suite to shower the same drain which was earlier leaking in the toilet area started leaking in the shower area. At this point I was so fed up with experience that I decided to not come back to this property at all. We took a bath with difficulty and had to go out. Somebody came by in the evening and took another 30 minutes to fix the drain. The smell was so spread everywhere in the suite that we had to half empty a gucci cologne bottle by spraying it to kill the bad odor. Went to use the rooftop swimming pool and enjoy the bar. It was a shocker as entry was denied as they had given the bar to an engagement party booking. Entry was again declined next evening for the same reason. 2 nights consecutively the DJ was playing quite loud until 12 night or so due to this party affecting the entire experience. I booked specifically to enjoy the rooftop bar/grill and pool and what a disaster it was to be denied entry, don’t know if that is even allowed as the bar should be used for hotel guests not a private party. This is barely a 3 star property based on the low roof, small rooms, suites of problems and overall experience. When I checked out I got a call from their marketing staff to not leave any negative feedback because of the bad experience and that I will be getting Marriott points credited as compensation to all the problems which I agreed as they made an effort to call and acknowledge the problems. She was supposed to call me back in 48 hours and she never called which again is extremely another bad experience. The only 5 star experience you will get here is in the Amritsar kitchen. We met Chef Vipin who asked us about our experience with the food so far and I told him the bad experience with the dinner buffet a day before and the good experience with the breakfast buffet. Chef Vipin immediately acknowledged my dissatisfaction and handed me his personal card and prepared excellent appetizers and main course for me and my wife for that night and 2 more corresponding nights. I will not be returning back to this hotel & recommend you to book ITC or Taj. I canceled all my bookings for 4 nights of stay in Marriott properties in India following the bad experience with...
Read moreTo be true din't feel like a Marriott stay., it states 5 star business hotel but the feel & rooms are more like a normal or 3 star hotel of other cities. The service being good but there were many underwhelming aspects which you do not expect in a 5 star hotel
Issues: Service delays be it getting guest luggage to the room (had to call twice to check the status of luggage after checking in.. after like 30 mins the front-desk manager had to bring the luggage to the room as we were calling constantly). As a person who has travelled the first thing you will feel to refresh and change your clothes - we had to wait for 30 mins or so to get things done.
My family had ordered food thru Swiggy, requested for plates & cutleries with room service.. after waiting for more than 20-30 mins we had the food in the restaurant packed containers as again there was a delay. The room service person came after 45 minutes and when I informed that cutlery is not required anymore as we had our food the person/guy gave a stare as if we did a mistake.. i had to tell him twice that we had food as they delayed in bringing the plates & cutlery. With the body language you can understand he wasn't happy that he had to bring & go back (he should understand no one likes to wait and have cold food)
No water bottles kept after room service, we had to ask for the complimentary water as they had missed to keep the same.. Milk/Coffee Sachets not refilled/added once they were used.. on 3rd day was left with one milk sachet & one coffee sachet after the room service had attended the room, they forgot/did not add more sachets - if a family is staying there should be minimum of 3 of each item kept available after room service
Believe they do not change the pillow covers & just use Steamers to clean the top layer of bed/pillow cases, once when we returned from outside early we noted that the pillow cases were fully wet and kept just like that on the bed making the bed wet as well.. not sure if they had spilled water on the pillow or this is the way it works but the pillows from one end were dripping wet
Finally., at the breakfast area - you will see staff approaching you and asking if everything is fine & if we have any feedback.. One scenario my wife gave a feedback and i noticed/felt that staff (will not name) was not listening as i saw him looking around even when she was speaking, so even from my end i said i have a feedback just to see whether he is really listening and it was same again - no eye contact, looking at other guests and tables around when someone is speaking to you which makes other person feel you are unheard or they are least bothered when it comes to Progressive feedback..
All these points may sound as if we are cribbing/nagging customers but you may compare our other reviews, this is the first time we felt a stay kind of underwhelming that too the name being Marriott
Positives: The Location (easy access to most of the places) Some of the staff members, especially the security personnel both at the gate & near the lobby - very helpful and...
Read moreI stayed at Courtyard by Marriott Amritsar for 7 Nights and 8 days and here is my experience staying at this hotel.
Positive Points -
The hotel is near the city centre on the main highway. The Golden temple is 15 mins by car from here.
The rooms are very modern and with nice infra. They have 24/7 Gym which is appreciated. All the amenities you might need including water bottles are available on request.
As a Bonvoy Elite Member, I was provided with an upgrade from the Deluxe Category to the Executive Category. However the room alloted were all the same to my booking and it was just a higher floor room. Welcome sweet treats were also placed in my room.
The staff is also very courteous and helpful.
Points to be improved -
This Marriot Property lacks the attention to detail. There wasn't a warm welcome on check in, which usually I received at all my previous stays. The check in person just completed the formalities and wasn't much interested in anything else. Maybe they were tired from their night shift.
One the first two days itself I faced issues with my room's telephone, however, that was sorted in some time.
As per what I felt and experienced, the rooms aren't frequently checked for maintenance and cleanliness. The rain head shower is very dirty, you can find white and brown patches in the shower cubicle at the edges.
They do have a variety of options for in room dining, however they lack a lot of local cuisines. For example, Amritsari Kulcha can only be ordered during breakfast and it's not available after breakfast hours. They lack local cuisines. Even the midnight menu is very very limited. I would prefer ordering food online to enjoy a beautiful appetite. Staying 7 days at this property, i didn't find their food that deserving and tasty. Especially the Biryani, it wasn't good at all.
Their breakfast menu for in room dining closes by 10:30 AM and the Midnight menu starts from around 10:30 to 11 PM itself.
Even though I faced a few issues with my stay, the team wasn't that active for the same and I had to keep them reminded for the same.
This review is based on my multiple previous stays with Marriott Properties and I didn't find Courtyard By Marriott Amritsar meeting those standards of welcoming, hospitality, maintenance, attention to detail etc.
In fact I found their Chauffeur Jatinder Singh more helpful and courteous than their front desk staff.
Also special mention for Ravinder and his colleagues for attentive housekeeping services for my room 705.
Do have a look at the 5 star rated reviews posted for this property, they clearly seem to be not authentic and AI generated as most of them have the same wording and sentence frames twisted here and there, and the same accounts have posted similar reviews to other Marriott Properties in Amritsar. So do rely on the reviews done by people who have more than 25 or 30 reviews on...
