Tonight we visited Makhan Fish for dinner. We were five of us & started with fish sangara fried & seekh kabab. Unfortunately it took over 25 minutes for these appetizers to arrive & the fish tasted really bad. The seekh kabab was flavorful with plenty of cashew pieces but it was served cold. I’ve had much better fried fish at well-known local shops in Sector 8, Chandigarh. They claim to have been in business since 1962 but the quality of the food didn’t reflect that experience. For our main course we ordered paneer butter masala & rara chicken (half boneless). The paneer butter masala was the worst I’ve ever had. We picked this restaurant based on online recommendations but it turned out to be a really poor choice. It took nearly 30 minutes to serve the main course which means we spent almost 40 to 50 minutes waiting for our food overall. The staff was not very friendly either we had to keep waving just to get someone’s attention & it felt like no one noticed us. Most of the customers were tourists & it seemed like they came here after seeing paid promotional articles on Google. We also ordered mirchi parantha twice. The first time it was tasty & fully cooked but the second time it came out half-cooked. Even after asking the server to replace it the replacement was also half-cooked. When we mentioned our concerns to the cashier (or owner) he casually replied, “nai khana toh acha hai…” which only added to our disappointment.

Amritsar...what a lovely place..a place that comprises of everything be it spirituality, hospitality, food, lovely gestures and what not and all this took me to a very famous, wonderful and a very lovely place called "Makhan Restaurant". A one stop shop for all the non veg lovers especially fish lovers. I guess I have never eaten this kind of a fish ever in my life. The tandoori fish was extremely soft akin to cotton swabs and I am sure the video would do the justice. A right blend of Indian spices and adequate aroma of tandoor made it perfect tandoori fish tikka and the green chutney ( coriander chutney) served added an extra flavour to it. A very decently priced restaurant however portion size could be a little better but never mind that quantity would be sufficient to tickle the taste buds of any individual. If you are Chinese lover and that too DESI types then this is the place for you. I am sure my video would do the justice 😋😋 A must visit place to eat fish and other non veggie items when you are in Amritsar. ⭐⭐⭐ Decent Food, But Not Worth the Hype 1. Waiting Time: Makhan Fish is almost always crowded. Be prepared for a long wait, especially during peak hours. While they do have a designated waiting area, it can only accommodate a limited number of people. If you’re planning a visit, make sure you come with some time on hand. 2. Ambience & Service: The restaurant offers comfortable seating and has a typical lively Punjabi vibe. However, the service is a letdown. The staff seems rushed, juggling multiple tables at once, and the hospitality suffers as a result. In our case, one of the items we ordered was even forgotten and had to be reminded again. That does take away from the overall dining experience. 3. Food Quality: The highlight of the visit was definitely the food. The tandoori chicken and fish fry were well-prepared and flavorful. If you’re a fan of rich, spicy Punjabi flavors, you’ll enjoy the dishes. 4. Value for Money: Despite the good food, the overall experience — considering the crowd, wait time, and hurried service — doesn’t quite justify the pricing. For the effort it takes to dine here, the return on experience feels underwhelming. Final Verdict: A decent place for a one-time visit, especially if you want to try their famed non-veg offerings. But manage your expectations — it’s more about the food than the experience.

My recent visit to a restaurant that had garnered a considerable amount of hype and positive reviews turned out to be a complete letdown. This establishment, which claimed to offer an extraordinary dining experience, fell short in every aspect, from being over-hyped and over-priced to serving underwhelming portions and lackluster presentation.

Let's start with the presentation of the food. I must say that it was abysmal. I've seen more appetizing dishes at fast-food joints. The plating lacked creativity and finesse, with food carelessly thrown onto the plate without any regard for visual appeal. It was as if the chefs had given up on making their dishes visually appealing and decided to solely focus on extracting as much money as possible from unsuspecting customers. It's disheartening to pay a premium price for a meal that looks like a hastily thrown-together mess.

Moving on to the portion sizes, they were incredibly disappointing. I've never seen such paltry servings in my life. It seemed like they were trying to stretch every ingredient to its absolute limit. The portions were so small that it left me questioning whether I had accidentally ordered from the appetizer menu. For the exorbitant prices they charged, one would expect a decent amount of food to satisfy their hunger. Instead, I left the restaurant feeling more famished than when I arrived.

Unfortunately, the taste of the food didn't make up for its lackluster presentation and meager portions. The flavors were unremarkable and failed to live up to the expectations set by the restaurant's hype. It felt as if the chefs had lost their passion for culinary excellence, resulting in uninspired and forgettable dishes. I expected to be delighted by innovative flavor combinations, but instead, I was left with a bland and forgettable dining experience.

To make matters worse, the service was shockingly poor. The waitstaff appeared disinterested and inattentive, as if they were doing us a favor by allowing us to dine in their establishment. Getting their attention was a Herculean task, and when they finally acknowledged us, their lack of enthusiasm was palpable. It's disheartening to be treated with such indifference, especially when paying a premium price for a supposedly upscale dining experience.

In conclusion, this restaurant's over-hyped reputation is nothing but smoke and mirrors. The over-priced menu, underwhelming portions, lackluster presentation, and unremarkable flavors make it a regrettable dining choice. I strongly urge potential customers to steer clear of this establishment and explore other options that offer a truly satisfying dining experience in terms of taste, presentation, and...

Here’s a sample review of Makhan Fish and Chicken Corner SINCE 1962:

Review: Makhan Fish and Chicken Corner SINCE 1962 I recently visited Makhan Fish and Chicken Corner, a legendary spot in Amritsar, and it lived up to its reputation in many ways.

Ambience The restaurant has a simple and traditional vibe, focused more on the food than the decor. It’s a bustling place with a warm and lively atmosphere, perfect for families, friends, or even solo diners looking for an authentic Punjabi food experience. However, it can get a bit crowded during peak hours, so patience is key.

Food The food here is the star of the show. I tried their Amritsari Fish and Butter Chicken, both of which were phenomenal. The fish was crispy on the outside and tender inside, with spices that felt just right—truly a must-try. The butter chicken was rich, creamy, and flavorful, with tender pieces of chicken that practically melted in the mouth. The naan served alongside was soft and fresh, making it a perfect pairing.

For appetizers, their Tandoori Chicken was perfectly marinated and grilled to perfection, with a smoky aroma that tantalized the senses. The portions were generous, and every bite was a burst of authentic Punjabi flavors.

Service The staff was polite and accommodating, but the service was slightly slow due to the high footfall. Despite the delay, the food was served hot, and the staff ensured we were comfortable throughout our meal.

Pricing The prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food offered. At approximately ₹700 for two people, it provides great value for money, especially considering the rich, authentic flavors and generous portions.

Overall Experience Makhan Fish and Chicken Corner is a gem in Amritsar for those craving authentic Punjabi non-vegetarian dishes. The food quality is excellent, the flavors are unmatched, and the atmosphere is lively. While the service could improve during busy hours, the food more than...

A warn, welcoming experience overall.

We arrived before the afternoon service (Post 12pm) and we waited and ordered tea before the kitchen opened.

Naresh ji attended our lunch service excellently, in spite of the rush. The food was prepared within a reasonable time period, given our multiple rounds of ordering food. The fish is prepared with exquisite detail, as we ordered three different variants. It is almost without the odor typically expected with ordering fish in restaurants, and both fluffy and crisp to the texture. It supersedes the chicken, which is prepared at par with the excellent Amritsari style of food. The kulchas, lassi and mushroom dishes can compete with any dhaba you will find in the area, and thus make the experience of going here worth it if one partakes in eating the fish with a few beers. The assorted alcohol choices are very welcome, alongside well prepared fresh lime sodas and other options for non drinkers.

Additionally, the staff are very accommodating of requests, packing food with specifications, providing cutlery and accompaniments like achaar, cutlery etc without question. The prices are very reasonable, and being outside the walled city the road networks are very accessible by car or private / public transportation with limited parking slots.

The restaurant is usually full, as we arrived before service started and still saw a mostly packed restaurant, so fine dining enthusiasts may be served better by establishments further away from the city. However for enthusiasts of River fish, this restaurant is well...
