I stayed in Clifftop Club in the last week of May 2017. The main purpose was to beat the summer heat of Hyderabad at least for a week, and it was an excellent trip. It was very cold even in May and the resort organized bonfire every evening. The resort is located at over 10,000 feet elevation amid lush green meadows. The surroundings provide an excellent opportunity for trekking and taking pictures of the snow capped Himalayas. Mount Nanda Devi is visible from the resort, when there are clear skies. There is a very clean artificial lake near the resort used for drinking purposes. There are many flowering plants around the resort which enhanced the beauty of the place. Access to the resort from Joshimath is via a cable car and you can see stunning views of the valley during the ride. Chair lifts are also available from Auli ski resort. The roads are not motorable even in summer, so personal vehicles may not be able to reach all the way to the resort. Getting to the resort from the cable car tower is also a challenge, especially for the elderly. It is more than 100 feet and high the elevator (lift) was under repair. The resort staff helped in carrying the luggage to and from the resort to the cable car tower. The rooms are very spacious and have big windows to view the mountains. Hot and cold water are available 24 hours. TV, room heaters, toasters and coffee makers are available in the mini kitchen. The restaurant offers good north Indian and continental food. Staff at the resort are very friendly and helpful in giving traveling tips and organizing local tours. Overall, this is a very nice place to relax and enjoy the great views of the Himalayas and nature. You can go on short trekking around. If you want to use this resort as a hub for traveling long trips around, it is not...
Read moreHopeless hotel! Worst management by the hotel Cliff top club reception staff. Very uncooperative , dumb & lazy staff. 1)The hotel staff doesn’t give any information about activities around the hotel. Also they don’t have any information leaflet or brochure or map about enjoying local attractions & activities. 2)Hotel rooms are shabby. Bathrooms shower doesn’t work. TV set model is 20 years old , doesn’t work most of the times. 2)The management staff are not bothered about coordinating with staff of Ropeway & to help their customers to get in for the Ropeway. There is no any other way of travel except Ropeway. At tower no. 8 which is the station for Cliff top club resort, there is no staff available to stop the ropeway car. Also the hotel staff is not bothered to inform the concerned staff about their customers journey via ropeway. So the tourist have to wait for more than hour at the ropeway station. It’s very frustrating experience. 3)The restaurant staff is warm & gives nice & quick services. The location of restaurant is very funny & there are no any signages to find it. So it’s hide & seek game. Food quality is very average. Please don’t order or eat non-veg food, it’s taste & quality is poor. On the contrary , adjust small restaurant “Maggy Point” serve better quality & tasty food!! Also they guide about various activities like mountain bike, horse riding, etc. 4)location of the hotel is very good. But not worth paying huge money for only Accomodations. Be careful about things mentioned above. Stay at your own risk!! Happy...
Read moreAlthough I rate the facilities as poor, the location is simply stunning. It is the most peaceful place I've ever been to in my 40 years of life. The surrounding landscape is majestic and beautiful beyond simple words.
The hotel was run down and dirty (2010), although the staff were very friendly, if a bit nervous of Western visitors. We were there just after the monsoons, and the road up the mountain was treacherous, but the risk of landslides was all but forgotten once we arrived.
Beautiful, beautiful place, but don't go there if you are looking for an Austrian ski resort with all the bells and whistles. The facilities are simple at best and if you don't like walking there is not much to do, although of course this might be different during the ski season.
If you are looking for a place to really get away from it all though, and don't mind living fairly basically then I can't recommend it highly enough. Opening the curtains in the morning to watch the sun rising over the Himalayas is reason enough to travel 5000 miles and risk your life...
