This hotel is worn down and mostly dysfunctional, and yet it has almost a old world vintage charm. However, the present is bound to become painfully overbearing when you actually have to live there. ||||It becomes obvious the moment you enter the reception, that this hotel has seen better days. The reception is grand, fitted with marble top and yet most of the times unmanned. The furniture including the locker behind the reception desk is worn out and rusted. On the other hand the grand sofa set in the middle of the reception hall appears almost incongruous in this surrounding.||||Coming to the rooms. You rarely see rooms as big as this for this price. You can figure out that the fitting and furniture were the most stylish ones in the era when it was fitted. Yet someone forgot that they needs to be replaced sometimes, and infinite rounds of patchwork and repair does not work. The automatic keyholder cum power enabler is the induction-type: Not the cheap modern ones where the key forces a spring switch. But the problem is that in many room the contraption is broken and is held together by brown tapes. But maybe all these can be ignored. The hotel has a separate service lift, a rarity in a budget hotel. Yes the room service will not clean the room unless you tell them and periodically remind.||||What is difficult to ignore are these. After 6 o clock in the evening there is no water in the cistern to flush the toilet till 6 o clock in the morning. And the stubborn mosquitos that defy the efforts of the good night mat to drive them away will keep you awake much of the night. You can of course amuse yourself wonder what level of stinginess makes the owner of a hotel hardware the goodnight lamp to the plug for the fear that some guest might take it away.||||Sp at the end should you stay here. Not what if you expect what most traveller look for in a hotel. But if you fancy staying in haunted or abandoned houses this is the one for you. And the good part is that it is not heavy...
Read moreHotel Kanchi seems to be in dire need of some attention from its management. While the hotel's location may be good, the lack of service, food, and clean washrooms, along with broken furniture and no maintenance, are significant issues that need immediate attention.
The presence of mosquitoes in the rooms and the bed cracking sounds only add to the discomfort of the guests. Moreover, the high price charged for these inadequate facilities is unreasonable, especially when the hotel claims to be a three-star property.
The hotel's management needs to focus on the hotel's upkeep, cleanliness, and maintenance. The rooms are old, and the bed sheets were dirty, indicating a lack of attention to hygiene and cleanliness. The broken furniture also indicates that the hotel has not been well-maintained.
The hotel's management should work on improving the facilities and services provided to the guests. The broken lift should be fixed immediately, and the rooms need to be updated with new furnishings, clean sheets, and mosquito repellents. Regular cleaning of the washrooms and other areas of the hotel is also essential.
In conclusion, while Hotel Kanchi's location may be excellent, it is not suitable for the ranking it claims to have. It requires immediate attention and modifications to ensure that guests have a comfortable and pleasant stay. The hotel's management should take steps to address the issues mentioned and work towards providing better facilities and services to...
Read moreMy first visit to this 3-star hotel was in 1981. There have been subsequently many visits. In the latest one, I stayed in a luxury suite. The room has a bed room in the back and a drawing room to entertain visitors in the front. The furnishings were not of the 21st century and were old. The bed was large, the sheets were clean. The AC was a bit noisy and had to be fixed up. The attached toilet with a tub was tolerable. I found a few cockroaches coming out at night. The water flush did not work and had to be rectified. The room did not have a coffee maker. All food was paid for. There are two restaurants where I had food. One the lower level called “Nandhe” and one in the roof top “Geetham”. Some of the waiters were arrogant. One could see the skyline from the roof top. Food was tolerable. Mineral water was very costly. Therefore, it is better to purchase from outside. There was adequate parking for the car. Room service was slow. There was no internet connectivity. The hotel accepts all credit cards. Booking of the room has to be done through telephone and needs to be reconfirmed again and again. Do not leave your room key in the reception when you go out and tell them not to enter the room in your absence. The hotel is about 3 km from the Chennai Egmore railway station, about 5 km from the Chennai Central Station and about 15 km from the Chennai airport. The travel desk was non-functional. And if you have an airport drop, it is better...
