Its nicely located in the middle of old town. but this means that the views are boring. i think the hotel is just coming out of covid issues as it is understaffed and most of the resaturants are closed and the food its iffy at best. i spend the the first hour of my stay as they relaced the mini fridge that had stopped wokking and had leaked all over the wood cabinet leading to a stink. next day i spend three hours waiting for maintaince to water proof the bathroom that was leaking into the sleeping area. the third day i had to watch for an hour as the Ac maintaince were trying to repair a leak which had seeped into the false ceiling leading to a new smell. The rooms are nice and spacious. so are teh bathroom but the WC is located in a tiny alcove in the bathroom making it unconfortable to reach for the health faucet. teh towels are clean and the beds confortable.the writing cair and table are well made and teh easy chair is also comfortable even for a big sized * like me. the laundry service is efficient. the complimentary Tata branded tea and coffee is undrinkable, so is whatever brand of creamer they use. i dont undersand why they dont just use amul and nescafe. inroom entertainment is still just basic tamil cable TV. room cleanliness is average with cobwebs on the bathroom sink and tea stains on the floor. again this is due to understaffing and overworking the existing staff. the staff themself is very helpful and hardworking. the restaurant is understaffed but despite this, the staff were helpful and pleasant. and the chef's range is a bit limited. the lobby area is nice and spacious, but the corridors poorly maintained with gaps in the carpets and the floors leading to repeated tripping risks. the carpets stink. the pool on the roof is nice and large but can only be used ealy mornings or in the evenings as it has no awning. I had a pleasant swim one evening and wounddown on the comfortable deck chairs. the changing rooms leave a lot to be desired. the gym is well equipped. they have a spa but didnt have male massuese so could be utilized. but it looked clean and pleasant. wifi connectivity was good through out the hotel and not spotty at all. basically this could be a great hotel if they staffed it well and updated basic infrastcuture and threw out their stinking carpets. But it looks like staff will be made to do more and more with less and less. would i visit...

Read moreAfter a wedding in Salem, my friend and I spent 2 nights (her 3) in this wonderful oasis of a hotel. It was both our first time in India, but by the end of our trip, our 3rd hotel. We arrived late at night by Uber from near the airport and were promptly allowed entry. Every car that enters the property is briefly searched before going through the manned gate. Then we had to go through a metal detector and our bags were scanned.
Upon entering the lobby you notice an amazing floral scent as well as immaculate, shining surroundings. We were checked in easily (have your passport handy, of course) and taken to our room. We did have to move the two twin beds, and nightstands, apart but the room was otherwise perfect. Throughout our stay, we never wanted for bottled water, large fluffy towels, or toilet paper. The beds were quite comfortable and the heavy, concentrated shower water pressure was fantastic.
Breakfast offered a wide variety of Western and Indian options, along with omelet, waffle/pancake, and dosai stations-on-demand. As well, wifi was available throughout the hotel, along with helpful staff members around nearly every corner. Oh, and the bar, Trend, was adorable with good deals and free snacks.
Taj Club House has a nicely outfitted gym with multiple treadmills, weight machines, a pool, and wide windows overlooking Chennai's rooftops. My friend used the spa on her solo night and the staff was very accommodating. The gym was staffed as well as full of hand towels and more free bottled water.
The hotel is easily reachable by auto-rickshaw, which we hired through Uber multiple times. As well, we used the Mahabalipuram driver package for one day. The concierge was very helpful and honest about the cost, which was well worth it. The driver was courteous, walked us to each monument's entrance and the car had A/C and extra bottled water. He even took us to extra sites back in the city, since we were under the 8hr rental time.
I would definitely stay at this hotel again, and recommend anyone else to do the same. It's about 40 mins from the airport, but maybe 10-15 from anything interesting in Chennai. Indian hospitality is renowned, but they go above and beyond at the...
