It was a rainy day when we got to Bintan. But the Hotel Indigo staff were right on time and picked us up at the Bandar Bintan Telani Ferry Terminal. The craftmanship and the creativity of the furniture and the architecture of the place was just exquisite. Checking in was a breeze and we were led to the nearby building for our rooms. The front desk staff even drove the golf carts for us to see to it that we donât get wet. The room is a fusion of modern, functional and native design filled it with elegance. And the view of the beach was just so breathtaking that not even the rain could ruin it. For the next couple of days, we ate at Sugarbeats. We had a semi-breakfast buffet which was included with the room rate. You can order everything on the breakfast menu which they call their âhot meals. â The spread on the buffet was actually more than I could ask for. Everything was delicious. I tried all the local Indonesian food in the buffet and everything was so good. From the fish, down to the beef and chicken and even the burbur, everything was perfect. I also got to try the âsnake fruitâ which is actually a palm fruit. From the breakfast menu, I highly recommend the Powerhouse and the Hokkien Mee. For lunch, get the Beef Rendang and the Indian Butter Chicken. For dinner, get the Crying Tiger. I ordered the Octopus tentacles and was a bit disappointed since it was a bit tough. I told them about it since they are just starting out. They just opened a month ago so they appreciate comments and suggestions to improve their service. My son ordered Cacio Pepe and Banana Peanut Butter milkshake and it was good. The Turin pizza and Foraging pizza were both hits for the kids. My sister loved the Burbur Sumsum which is a local dessert. I liked the Lagoi drink and the Gin and Tonic. My niece ordered the lobster tail and it was creamy and heavenly. Service was just superb! The staff were all so attentive and warm. My son wasnât feeling well and IL HAM was so kind to give him warm water. He constantly tried to cheer him up. He also conversed with people in the different tables and I knew that he was just a naturally caring person. He also talked to my niece about his work and he is so passionate about the F&B business. Pius, Eki and Faris also made our meals extra special whenever we ate at Sugarbeats. They were very attentive and saw to it that we had everything we need. Even the manager drove us to our building to see to it that we wonât get wet from the rain. Whenwe were at the Pool Bar, the barista, Feridion, was so fun to talk to. He was so happy to suggest drinks to all of us. I highly recommend the Lagoi, and Margarita. He also gave extra ice cream to my sonâs order of Vanilla Milk Shake. His personality is just perfect for the bar so even when it was rainy, he was like a ray of sunshine to everyone there. He would see to it that everyone is at ease and included in the conversation. And when we were about to leave, YUDI NURDIANSYAH checked us out. He was very efficient and our van was already waiting for us. He also told us that they already got our boarding pass for the ferry. That is unbeatable service!!! For a fraction of other luxury resorts in Bintan, I can say that this is such a steal! I donât know if this is just an introductory rate but if I were you I would take advantage of it right now cause I am definite that Hotel Indigo is the place to be when you are in Bintan. With their amenities (heated pool and 24 hour gym and etc), service, food and the warmth of their staff, people will surely fall for this undiscovered gem soon. Although this was just meant to be as a side trip for us while we were in Singapore, the whole family felt we should have just stayed in Hotel Indigo during the whole vacation. If not for other commitments, we would have done that because that is how amazing this place has been to my family. Thank you so much for taking care of us. Please know that we really appreciate all of your time and effort. And we hope we can stay...
Read moreJust did a two night stay last week at their Ocean view one bedroom suite. My experience was mixed. To start with the good: everything went seamlessly on the first day - checkin was efficient (the staff even helped us to find cash for visa payment at ferry terminal), the welcome staff were friendly and whilst the food was not amazing, we had no complaints about our lunch/dinner at their Ocean restaurant. They have two pools which are beautiful and ocean facing and a white sandy beach which is suitable for a morning/night stroll. Their junior staff are very friendly and you can really tell that they care about your happiness during your stay. Our only minor complaint with our room was the constant sewer smell in our guest toilet and the main bathroom which was evident from checkin and throughout our stay. I called house keeping but all they could do was spray the bathrooms with refresher sprays which gave us a headache (so we did not request this again). Maybe a tip would be to avoid the ground floor rooms as the smell may be worse here, ours was room 210.
Now the bad: I believe the hotel has some problems when it is a little busy. Our first night was Thursday night so the hotel was not as occupied and service was quite attentive throughout, from the reception to the restaurants. Our second night was a Friday night and we could tell that the staff were struggling in all fronts from here. First they messed up the hotel arranged taxi booking which I had pre-booked earlier that day to visit a nearby restaurant for dinner. We waited with a toddler for 20 minutes in the lobby without an explanation despite having re-checked 15 minutes prior over the phone that our taxi booking was still good and would be on time. After 10 minutes of waiting, I had to go and ask their manager Heny to check what was happening. She just said to us to wait another 5 minutes, and we did. However the taxi still did not show up for another 10 minutes. By then, it was too late to go the restaurant as our toddler was getting increasingly frustrated/hungry and we were forced to dine at their restaurant. We did not want to do this because we had dined at the same restaurant for the past two days for breakfast/lunch/dinner. It was only after 30-40 minutes later that one of their staff Nabilah (not their senior manager, Heny who was checking up on our taxi) came to apologise and mentioned that there was a mix up and our taxi was taken by another guest at the hotel. Free food (excluding drinks) was offered at their restaurant as a gesture from the hotel. Heny never came to apologise despite having walked past our table twice that evening and then again at lunch the next day - she really did her best to ignore us throughout the rest of our stay.
We had further mix ups at breakfast the next morning where each of our mains (three in total) turned up one by one, 15 minutes apart as the staff had mixed up our orders with a table next to us. We were also constantly served incorrect drinks meant for guests in nearby tables, and these were also sometimes just left at our table despite us explaining that these were not meant for us... The manager there explained to us that the hotel is quite busy that morning and hence the hiccups and asked for our understanding. I am worried how they will manage this week during the Lunar New Year Holiday season as the hotel did not seem fully occupied.
All in all, I would go back but perhaps avoid the weekend/holiday season. The hotel has a lot of potential and a good group of junior staff members. Over time, perhaps the issues will be resolved as it is still a very young hotel but only...
Read moreLet me start by saying all the postitive reviews are slightly misleading. Leaving a more objective review/rating to balance out. Indigo is the big brother property of IHG group sharing some of facilities with it's little brother next door the Holiday Inn. To start the check in wasn't very welcoming, informative, nor had knowledgable staff. I specifically gave them my IHG membership but they failed to inform us any privilatges or discounts at restaurants (20%), which was a missed opportunity for them - we only realized when we got bills from restaurants. Also, they didn't really explain anthing about the resort or activities, but you do get updates by whattsapp daily which again we found out later. They were more concerned about trying to charge us 1mill rupiah more for extra bed for our child which wasn't prepared ahead of time. I believe all the rooms are sea facing, but two of building are smaller with no lift, and you guessed it they put us in building 3, furthest away from the main lobby, pools, faciities , with stairs. I did ask to stay in main building, but the answer as for most things was NO full occupancy. In our room the Wifi kept cutting out so some of minimal work we needed done also got interupted, when I called front desk they claimed it was due to weather and affected the whole resort?? - it was light rain that day so not sure how true this excuse was.
There is NO dedicated Spa instead you have to go to Holiday Inn next door (Sunjivva Spa) which they share. We did go in the morning to try and book, but as you can imagine catering to 2 resorts no slots open and put on waiting list with no follow up. Not having a dedicated spa at the more premium resort (rooms costing double the price of the holiday inn) and sharing the overwhelmed spa next door with no priority or slots is inexcusable. BTW, when we walked around the holiday inn it looked fine with equally good facilities possibly better in some areas. One day Indigo front desk told us the Indo buffet dinner at holiday inn was half the price compared to the similar indo buffet dinner at indigo, so we booked and and when we arrived it was actually slightly more expensive! One night we orderered a la carte dinner at Sugar Beats, the focus here is obviously on the maintaining the buffet, quality was extremely poor for menu orders. The octopus for one was cooked/boiled to death no texture or flavour, the pasta, was mediocre/bland, and the beef rendang although tasted better was tough, and bit dry.
A few positive points, considering how bad the a la carte dinner was, the breakest semi a la carte buffet was pretty good. Tried most of the the cooked to order food on the menu and from the salmon, steak, veggie options, all were well portioned, well presented, and most importantly seasoned properly and tasted pretty good - order off the menu! Also appreciated the freshly squeezed juices, detox shots, and variety of hot drinks which you can order from staff. Another positive was the two seperate pools, which had enough of chairs, tables, bean floaties, and some nice cabana's to chill out. Some snacks we ordered by the pool for lunch was ok too, considering how bad the pasta was previous night the pizza was surprisingly good, seemed like it was wood fired with a nice red sauce. The beach activities looked ok, although we didn't take part and the area where the resort is is quite peaceful and clean. We love the convenience of Bintan from SG but think this is the 1st and last time at the Indigo unless drastic improvements are made currently far...
