El Lagoi Beach Club — Restaurant in Bintan Island

Very disappointing experience despite having a reservation.

I had high expectations when I made a reservation for lunch here, but was left extremely disappointed with the service:

Upon arrival, I informed the receptionist that I had a reservation. Without asking for any details, we were directed to a back table. I requested to be seated at one of the nicer tables with a beach view (which were clearly unoccupied), but was told those were reserved. I had to reiterate that I already had a reservation before the receptionist finally checked and moved us to the appropriate table.

Once seated, the table was dirty and had not been cleaned. We didn’t receive any menus until we asked multiple times. The waiter taking our order was unfriendly and visibly stressed.

After placing our order, we waited 35 minutes for just one out of four dishes to arrive. Every time we asked a staff member for an update, they told us they’d check but never came back.

After 40 minutes, we expressed our frustration to one of the male waiters. His response was rude and dismissive. He even brought us the wrong dish and was confused about our order. It turned out our order was never correctly submitted to the kitchen. He then told us we’d need to wait another 45 minutes for the steak we originally ordered.

We complained to three other waiters and requested to speak with a manager, but no one followed up or offered an apology. Eventually, a team leader approached, sincerely apologized, followed up, and got our food served within 5 minutes. She also offered to compensate us with the meal free of charge.

While the food itself was actually quite good, the attitude and coordination among the staff were shockingly unprofessional. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Lina, Budi, the entire crew and the amazing chef for the unforgettable dining experience we had on 5 August. We were there to celebrate my husband's birthday, and everything was absolutely superb — even as outside guests, we were made to feel incredibly welcome and special. Four Points by Sheraton Lagoi Bay Bintan should be truly proud of their team. The service was top-notch, and every staff member was attentive and thoughtful throughout the evening.

I made the reservation through Seven Rooms, and the process was seamless. I had indicated it was my husband’s birthday, and the team went above and beyond by reserving a beautifully decorated table by the pool, complete with an incredible view.

My husband especially loved the ambience of the beach bar — it was well-lit, cosy, and had a charming open-air concept. We both agreed it was very inviting and relaxing. The steak we had was exceptional — honestly, one of the best we’ve ever tasted.

The highlight of the evening was the heartfelt birthday surprise. The team, together with the chef, sang a warm birthday song and presented a beautiful cake filled with love. It was a truly touching moment that we’ll always remember.

We came here with the package vouchers. The vouchers come with Appetizer, Main, Desserts and Drink. The portions were generous! A lot of variety to choose from. It is either this place or Rempah Kitchen. El Lagoi serves more Western food. Service here is very good. Everyone is friendly and special thanks to Fabri. This place is very hot in the afternoon but I think it's great. Hot and breezy. Nice view of the beach as well. The food however, needs some improvement. The mushroom soup and seafood chowder soup is a bit too thick. The panini chicken cutlet and Australian wagyu burger was ok.
