The thing about Camessa is, it's not fancy. But it's cheap! And for the price you get fantastic views over Amed Beach and some of the best snorkeling right out the front of the hotel. We got the top floor suite which had incredible sunset views of the volcano. It was a huge room with big private balcony. The staff were super friendly and accomodated all of our requests, very helpful organising laundry and driver also. The food from the restaurant was a bit hit and miss, but generally good. The pool was a bit suss as (like other Bali pools) I didn't notice the filter or cholorine being used, and it was being filled straight from the garden hose. There is easy swimming right out the front on the beach. Walk just 50m towards Cafe Bobo and jump in for incredible, clear water and a huge array of tropical fish and even sea turtles! Clean beaches with no rubbish. There are heaps of little warrungs to eat in walking distance, but for more higher end restaurants you need a scooter or have a driver to take you to one of the other beach areas. Another review remarked about the wave noise - on our first night the swell was quite high so we did notice the beach was quite noisey (although we didn't mind), however this was a full moon and may have just been the tides, because the rest of the trip it was just a lovely gently lapping of the waves. More disurptive was the live cover band from WaWaWeeWee (sp?) a couple of nights a week which went quite late. Hey, but if you like contemporary rock classics, just head down for a Bintang...
Read moreI stayed at Camessa for 3 nights (July 2020). DO NOT STAY HERE. The pool and outdoor seating area is actually quite nice — literally right on the beach. However, this was the worst hotel experience I’ve had in Bali. The room was smelly (like sewage), the breakfast was horrible, but the worst part was the service. For example, the staff suggested we just keep the windows open to fix the smell.
The banana fritters were stale. The banana pancakes were under cooked. There was a problem with the plumbing so the sewage smell would just waft through your room even with the bathroom door closed. The room next door had the same issue.
The bed was broken. The main cross beam was broken in half. Someone had tried to fix it with some wire (like from a coat hanger). We had to take the mattress off and sleep on the floor.
So the smell, the bed, and the food were all horrible, and the bathroom was not very clean, but to add to that the customer service was worse. All the staff would say is “we are sorry and we will call the owner.” But they did not offer to fix anything, or offer a free breakfast or anything to try and make it better.
Looking now I see there are similar reviews of this place from 6 months ago. The owner has responded to those reviews saying they would fix the issues. Clearly they have not. There are so many options in Amed. This one is...
