We visited Desamuda Village as a family of 4, two adults and two children, aged 9 and 12.||After we had booked it, I looked at the Tripadvisor reviews and got a little worried because some of them were negative. However, I’m very happy that we didn’t experience any of the same issues that the other reviewers reported. ||We arrived fairly late at night and checked in smoothly to the hotel. On arrival, we did have a problem with our bathroom: the sink tap leaked from underneath the sink, which made the whole bathroom, wet, and the showerhead was broken and squirted water out of the side. We reported this in the morning, and by the afternoon, both issues had been fixed with no fuss. ||Room:|We stayed in a two bedroom villa with a private pool which was really large and perfect for our needs. There were two bedrooms (two large double beds both with mosquito nets around), two bathrooms (a shower and bath in both) a living room/seating area with a television (which we didn’t use) and a kitchen area. All but the kitchen area are fully air-conditioned - the kitchen is open to the private pool and has a ceiling fan). In terms of outside space for our villa, we had a little private pool, small but fine for a quick dip to cool off and the children enjoyed it. There is also a balcony on the first floor, which we didn’t really used, but looked nice and comfortable. The rooms are cleaned daily (they arrive early!) but if you put the don’t disturb sign out the cleaners don’t knock. |Pool and bath towels are provided. ||Food and drink:|Breakfast was good, with a good range of pastries, fresh fruit cooked food and the option to have an omelette or eggs made for you. We ate dinner a couple of times at the hotel and again the food was great. Drinks were very reasonably priced (as is the food). ||Pools:|There are two pools one big one which is quite deep and good for swimming, one much smaller one which is good for splashing around in. Plus of course the pool with our villa. There weren’t loads of sunbeds around the pool but definitely enough and a couple of nice cabanas that you can sit in for some shade.|Only negative for me was that the steps out of the bigger pool were damaged and very wobbly. Could do with being fixed as it’s hard to get out!||Reception|Always very polite and helped with taxis and advice. The hotel ordered us taxis a couple of times, very reasonable. However one time they said we could use the hotel driver and he was significantly more expensive. Always check the price before you take any taxi as we were massively overcharged for a taxi we got on the street too. ||Overall the hotel could do with a bit of maintenance and upgrading, but everything was clean and any problems dealt with quickly. ||Outside the hotel, we visited a cafe called Mind (just at the entrance to the street leading to the hotel). Excellent food there at all...
Read moreI recently visited Desamunda Village with two friends. We were excited for the property because of its amazing location. The staff was very welcoming upon arrival and were able to get us checked into our villa quickly. We pre-reserved a three-bedroom villa with private pool.
When you arrive, you are welcomed with a delicious welcome beverage and given the keys to your villa. There is a pool in the main courtyard area of the resort when you enter, and the rest of the grounds are beautiful. The pool in the main courtyard seems to be there for looks, as there are no lounge chairs etc. around it making it quite un-usable. There is another main, newer infinity pool in another part of the property, however, there were some very concerning issues with it, so we did not use it. We did goo ad try to use the pool, but on arrival there were lose wires hanging in the pool and around the deck of the pool, making it extremely unsafe to get into (Pictures attached). It was a shame though, as the pool was beautiful. I would suggest that hotel maintenance get rid of the wires.
The property is gorgeous and well landscaped. Our villa was pretty on arrival with a nice pool, and a nice spacious outdoor living space. The grounds inside were overgrown with weeds, seems to not be maintained. The living space is large, but furniture is old and worn. In addition, the paint on the walls is chipping away and missing. The entire villa needs to be painted and maintained. Cabinets were crooked and would not close etc. The rooms were comfortable and the beds VERY comfortable with mosquito nets. The bathrooms were nice, and we enjoyed the outdoor showers.
This property could be gorgeous if it was maintained and kept up. With that said, the price is very low, so if you go in expecting that it will be a bit run down, you will be happy. Housekeeping did a great job in keeping the villa clean fr the most part. Strange thing, on day 1 they removed all the dirty glassware from inside our villa and set it on the step at our entrance, but nobody ever removed it, so they just sat there for 4 days… employees walked by it many times a day and our housekeepers came in and out f our villa, but nobody ever removed the glasses… just left them on the porch. Also they put a garden hose into our pool one day when cleaning it, but never removed it, so we had a strange hose coming into the pool for most of our stay. No big deal, but def. not a first class hotel thing to do.
We loved the breakfast, everything they served was delicious. All the food was covered and fresh.
The best thing was the service. The staff at this property was amazing.
Its unfortunate, as I said, the property is gorgeous. My friends and I are travel agents and looking for places to bring clients in the future, and we would not be able t use this property unless it was updated, so are booked...

No balcony, no table and dining chairs for the guests, definitely no room with bedroom upstairs and living room downstairs as the room photos suggest. I'm travelling with my young daughter so also requested a room with two single beds, that didn't happen either. Given I booked a few months in advance I would have thought availability wouldnt have been an issue.
So yes, big dissapointment there, particularly as we are here for 5 nights.
We also checked in only to have workmen in the adjoining room using hammer drills on the common walls. When I complained to desk staff and asked if it was something that was going to continue during our stay I was promised they'd look into it and get back to me, and that never happened, twice.
The room we got was spacious, it was clean, the double bed had a really comfortable mattress. The air-conditioning was OK, the WiFi was OK, it would drop out now and then for me. The kitchenette was great. We enjoyed the semi open bathroom.
The accommodation felt secure with a guard always on duty at the front. The grounds were lovely and leafy, green and maintained. I enjoyed the main pool, which didn't seem to get much use except from us and a couple of other holiday makers. So poolside chairs and pavilions were always available.
The location was great, its the main reason I chose it. Just off the main street, only 5 to 10mins stroll to the big Bingtang Supermarket, lots of eateries, shopping and spas to choose from. Eat street and Seminyak Square are only a 10 to 20 minute wander away. Quicker if you choose transport.
The biggest saving grace in my opinion is the kitchen /restaurant staff and the grounds staff. They are always cheerful and happy to see you and it helps one overlook the shortcomings of the stay.
We thought the breakfast was great! You've got fresh fruit, breads, cereals, pastries, a selection of hot foods, as well as being able to have eggs etc cooked to your liking, or rice or noodles cooked on request. We ate dinner at the restaurant also, and enjoyed it, well priced and tasty meals, and nice...
