Deceptive and Disappointing Experience – Not Worth Ruining Your Trip (or your Honeymoon)
My partner and I booked the "One Bedroom Villa with Plunge Pool" specifically for the start of our honeymoon, and unfortunately, our experience was horrible from start to finish. They put us in a completely different room than the one we paid for, without informing us; it felt as though the hotel simply hoped we wouldn’t notice. Our plunge pool was about 1/4 the size of the one in the photo, and was not private as the description stated (guests and workers could see us as they walked by) (see photos). The inside was also very different than the photos, where the tv was not mounted and instead blocked the window view.
We arrived at the Ning later in the day after a 2 hour drive from the airport, completely exhausted and looking forward to a good night's rest. Instead, we were led to our dimly lit room which may have looked passable at first glance, but upon closer inspection with our phone flashlights we noticed: spiderwebs in the corners with bugs still in them, layers of dust between the bedposts above our head, ant trails leading in and out of the room, and numerous mosquitoes flying around, resulting in bites throughout the night. We were up all night killing bugs and swatting mosquitoes, hiding under the covers in fear of being bitten. We couldn’t even open the door to step outside as there were flies, gnats, and other insects swarming all over the doors, just waiting to come in. It felt like we were trapped. The stress and discomfort completely erased any sense of romance or relaxation.
When we raised the issue with the front desk the next day, they said they sincerely apologized and we were told the room we had reserved was “under maintenance,” and also that bugs are to be expected in a tropical area. They offered to move us there now and to do a deep cleaning for us, but who on earth wants to deal with that on their honeymoon or on vacation with so much time already wasted? Just because you are going to a tropical area does not mean the hotel is off the hook for basic cleanliness, or that the rooms should reek of bug spray instead of doing basic pest control. We simply wanted a refund for the remaining 3 nights and to leave immediately. They proceeded to tell us refunds were not possible due to hotel policy, even after they acknowledged putting us in a different room than the one we booked. We left immediately, hoping our credit card company could recover the cost. Unfortunately, the booking was non-refundable, and when contacted, the hotel changed the story — denying fault and refusing to authorize a refund. Despite hours on the phone, we were unable to recover our money. I urge you not to support a place with this level of deceptiveness and unreasonableness.
Looking back, the first red flag we ignored was the airport pickup service through the hotel. The driver held a sign with my name correct, but my fiancé’s name was a completely different name, which created an awkward and confusing arrival at the airport, and made us feel a bit disregarded.
I strongly caution others considering this hotel so that your money and time is not taken away from you like it was for us. There are far better options in the area (with more accessible roads, if I may add) that offer clean accommodations, clear communication, and basic professionalism. For reference, the hotel we moved to nearby — Sthala, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel — had spotless and bug-free rooms, and gave us the romantic, peaceful, and accommodating experience we were originally hoping for here. May you have a far better experience in Ubud than what we experienced...
Read moreThe Resort was absolutely stunning , beautifully designed, spotless, and so comfortable. And having a private pool right at the doorstep felt like a dream 🏊♂️💦. Every morning, I’d just wake up, open the door, and jump straight into crystal-clear water. Honestly, it felt like a mind spa 🧘♀️.
The bathroom was also super well-designed, with hot water, fresh towels, and everything we could possibly need , from a coffee machine ☕ to daily water, tea and cold drinks. The view was breathtaking 🌿, and there was plenty of space to just sit back, relax, and soak in the peace of Ubud’s nature. The whole resort had such a calm, safe, and refreshing atmosphere 🌸.
🍳 Breakfast was generous, delicious, and full of flavor , the perfect start to each day. We had dinner at the resort once too, and it was excellent (the fish and Calamari were especially tasty 🐟👌). The complimentary 15-minute spa treatment was such a thoughtful touch and made us feel truly pampered 💆♀️.
But what really sets this place apart is the service 💯. The staff were always smiling 😊, polite, and genuinely caring, ready to help in an instant. A big thank you to Era at the front office, who made everything so smooth and welcoming, and to Pande (driver/security), who was always kind, reliable, and professional 🚐. The shuttle service to Ubud center (drop-off at 11:00, pick-up at 14 and 17:30) was also very convenient.
Our best memories are simple yet unforgettable; waking up to the sounds of nature 🎶, breathing fresh air 🌬️, and enjoying the serene view 🌅. It was the perfect peaceful retreat.
🌟 I highly recommend The Ning Resort Ubud for couples, honeymooners 💕, or families visiting Bali for the first time. If you’re looking for a place to relax, recharge, and feel truly cared for, this is it. For anyone coming to Bali and Ubud for the first time, this resort is the perfect spot. far enough from the crowds and busy city life to feel peaceful 🌿, yet close enough (just 10 minutes) to explore and slowly get used to the rhythm of life here , all in a safe and welcoming...
Read moreWe recently had the pleasure of staying at The Ning resort and it was exactly like the pictures and descriptions of what we saw when we booked it online. It’s fairly central in Ubud but tucked away in the rice fields amongst locals and some other villas - so it’s very peaceful and the perfect setting for people who don’t want to be surrounded by hustle and bustle. The Resort itself is beautiful- very modern looking, furnished with artistic pieces, extremely clean and well looked after. There’s adequate facilities for relaxing in the lobby, garden area, above the pool, in the bar and next to the pool as well. The gym is well equipped, the spa is beautiful and overlooks the “jungle”, the bar and restaurant and infinity pool all overlook the “jungle” and are very neat and clean and comfortable. The staff are all very welcoming, accommodating and go out of their way to make your stay perfect. We did the rice terrace trek Friday morning with the guide (Daryma) who walked us through the fields and showed us cool things that mostly locals would know (like certain plants that close their leaves when you touch them, games you can play using strands of rice grass, temples and their meanings and celebrations, etc) which made the experience that much more special. There are also free activities and specials that run daily which is great (such as cocktail class, rice terrace trek, sunset yoga, shuttle services to Ubud Centre). The villa we stayed in was also very spacious, clean, neat and overall perfect. Honestly, there’s nothing negative to say about The Ning. Would highly...
