What an amazing morning!! This is our first time in Bali and this experience has been an absolute highlight. Wayan picked us up from our accommodation and took us first to his local market to learn about the ingredients we would be using. We spoke to some lovely stall holders who described the various spices and how they were used. We tasted snake fruit and lychees and learned about how coconut oil is made. Then we were taken to Wayan’s cooking class location in his local village and just down the road from his home. It’s flanked by his rice field, where they grow their own rice and coconuts. We were then given some delicious iced tea, snacks and coffee. He then showed us the ingredients and we got started. Everyone had something to do and Wayan and his wife helped every step of the way. The food was absolutely delicious! We also made an offering to place in their small temple. This was an amazing experience, very authentic and enabled us to gain some insight in the Balinese culture. Thank you Wayan and family for giving us this wonderful experience....
Read moreThe cooking class was recommended to us and we decided to give it a try - and it was an amazing experience. After learning how to create a base sauce for balinese dishes, we cooked a complete menu under the supervision of the owner. Every single dish was so delicious and we got a very good understanding about the basics of the balinese kitchen. But in fact the cooking class was much more than just cooking. Before starting to cook, we made our own offerings and learned about their role in the daily life on Bali while enjoying home made iced tea and coffee. The owner finds the perfect balance between cooking, culture and fun... Yes, he is a super fun, friendly and lovely person and definitely one reason to take this class. Our class was quite spontaneous and in the afternoon, which is why we could not go to the local market together with the owner for grocery shopping. But as I already said, he is a super nice guy and just offered us to accompany him on the next morning. In total everything is a 5/5 and I highly recommend this...
Read moreWe had the greatest time. We joined the cooking class and it was the highlight of our trip. If you join in the morning you visit Ubud market first and get explanation about different kinds of vegetables and fruits used in Bali. Afterwards we went to the place where our cooking class was happening. Absolutely beautiful, near the rice fields, where we got little treat and a welcome drink. Then, our class started. Everything was very well organised, we got all the information about traditional Balinese dishes and we made them ourselves. In the end we even got a booklet with recipes. Everything was super easy to follow so you dont need to be a great cook to join. If you hesitate if to join or not, I'd say go for it! Thank you Tumang Bali! Side note: they can accomodate vegetarians and vegans as well. Just inform them about your restrictions. Our vegetarian/vegan friends were able to prepare all dishes with...
