My stay at The Wakanda A Pramana Experience in Ubud was a disaster from start to finish. I feel compelled to share my experience to warn others!!!!!!!
The sink leaked continuously, soaking our belongings. Despite multiple complaints to the management and assurances that the issue would be fixed, nothing was done. We were left to deal with a flooded room throughout our stay, which caused significant inconvenience and discomfort, leaving our belongings soaked wet. The hotel staff’s repeated promises to fix the problem were empty, and we were forced to navigate a wet and hazardous environment in what was supposed to be a luxury accommodation.
We had eagerly booked a massage, anticipating a relaxing experience. Instead, we were met with constant banging noises during the session, making it impossible to relax. To make matters worse, a wedding event was happening on the premises, and we were not informed about it at the time of booking. The noise from the event further disrupted our massage, forcing us to cancel our second session. The bathtub in our room had a strong smell of cigarette smoke, making it unpleasant and unusable. This was especially troubling as we expected a clean and fresh environment, which the hotel failed to provide. It is beyond disappointing to book a supposedly luxurious room only to find it in such a state of disrepair and neglect. The strong smell of smoke was not only unpleasant but also unacceptable in a hotel that advertises itself as a high-end establishment.
In response to our complaints, the hotel initially offered a 10% discount on our SPA bill and a complimentary drop service. However, these measures were insufficient in addressing the fundamental issues we faced. After further discussions, they increased the SPA bill discount to 50% to which I have NOT received. The discounts and complimentary services offered were mere tokens that did nothing to mitigate the significant inconvenience and distress caused by the hotel's numerous failings.
The hotel's handling of our refund request was not only unprofessional but also coercive. They accused me of posting a negative review, which I had not written, and threatened to withhold my refund unless the review was removed. Despite providing my card details for the refund, the hotel continually delayed processing it. It is disgusting that the hotel thinks I have control over other people’s reviews.
Accusing me of actions I did not commit and holding my refund hostage over a review I did not write is beyond unprofessional. It is outright manipulative and coercive. The expectation that I should somehow control or influence someone else's review is absurd and offensive. Reviews are personal opinions and experiences, and it is unacceptable for a hotel to attempt to manipulate them through threats and coercion. This kind of behavior is not only unethical but also potentially illegal. It is an egregious abuse of power and reflects a deep disregard for customer rights and satisfaction.
Response to managements reply: -We were never informed about a wedding on checkin. -10% off and a ride to Jimbaran is inexpensive to us as gojek is quite cheap. -Withholding my refund based on a review that my partner posted is both unethical and unprofessional. Reviews reflect personal experiences and opinions, and attempting to manipulate them is unacceptable. It is inappropriate to hold me responsible for another person's honest review and to delay my refund as a form of coercion.
The hotel's failure to address significant issues, their inadequate compensation offers, and their unprofessional and coercive behaviour regarding our refund request were appalling. I strongly advise anyone considering a stay at this hotel to reconsider. There are many other accommodations in Ubud that offer a far better experience without the risk of encountering such unacceptable treatment. Save yourself the trouble and avoid. The stress, disappointment, and disrespect we experienced make it clear that this hotel does not value its guests and is not deserving of...
Read moreBeautiful hotel with really nice rooms (each one is like it's own private villa) and very friendly and helpful staff.
The breakfast was amazing, the "healthy breakfast" consisted of a selection of fruit, your choice of fresh fruit juice, toast and pastries with your own choice of homemade jam and porridge (they called it "oak milk") which was available with soya milk for us and our fellow vegans out there! The homemade jams were really tasty, the watermelon and pineapple jams were probably our favourites closely followed by the papaya jam. We had the floating breakfast one morning too, where the breakfast was served for us in the pool on a floating tray and it was really nice to enjoy a super tasty breakfast while watching the sun rise above the rice paddies.
We joined the yoga class at 7am on one morning while the sun rise over the rice paddies - pretty amazing start to the day!
We also had a Balineese massage at the spa which we booked the night before via a quick phone call to reception. It was a really good massage, you could specify to them before you start via a short form the amount of pressure you want applied, if there are any areas you want them to work on and if you have any areas of your body you're uncomfortable with them massaging. After an hour of heaven, we were served a lovely herbal tea.
Just a note about the location - it is around 20 minutes from the centre of Ubud by car (not really walkable) however the hotel offers a free shuttle that goes into the centre of Ubud 3 or 4 times per day (last pickup for us was 8pm from an easy-to-find landmark in Ubud).
All in all an excellent hotel for couples as a romantic getaway.
Would highly recommend and we'd definitely stay here again.
PS I'm a runner and had my running shoes with me and I went on a couple of early morning runs at 6ish - before the sun rose too much! There aren't any pavements / sidewalks anywhere but I managed a couple of 6k loops which weren't too bad in terms of traffic on smaller roads and the locals were really friendly, most would smile, wave and say hello. One thing to note is that there are a lot of dogs around, 90% of them are really chilled and don't even acknowledge you, 10% would bark and start to chase you... None of them ever actually came too close or anything, but it was a bit disconcerting, and I'm a dog lover! This isn't a mark against the hotel though, this is just something to be aware of if you're off to Bali on holiday and want to run while you're here! Oh and the roads are quite hard to navigate so definitely worth plotting a route on your watch before heading out or you're very likely...
