Werochana Wood Carving — Attraction in Pulau Bali

I would highly recommend NOT purchasing a wooden carving from here for so many reasons. The artists do beautiful work no question about it- but this company does not provide the correct phytosanitary document needed in many countries to import wooden carvings from Bali through customs. They provide a fraudulent certificate saying the wood is sanitary but this is not from the Indonesian government and therefore is not legitament. Buyers should be very very aware!!! Due to the fact that I found out I could not bring an art piece home, I tried to return it. I was never informed upon purchase that it was not refundable (I returned three days later and had not unwrapped the item) They refused to give my money back fully and one of the men working there raised his voice and told me I was wasting his time by coming back again. I have confirmation from my countries importation that this certificate is not legitimate and told Werochana that I either would like the legitimate certificate or would like my money back. This turned into a two hour conversation. Tourists be aware of this prior to purchasing! They say they have had no problems with people bringing stuff back to their home countries but after speaking to 3 people at imports- that simply is not true. When asked if the wood is treated and how it is treated, they are unable to tell me any information. I have left feeling disappointed and that this company thrives off of scamming tourists. At the end, I received a partial refund but I am still losing money…my hope is that the money will go directly to the artist that created the piece I couldn’t bring home. It’s a shame that a company operates like this and says they have been doing so for 25 years. Please do your research before....

Great place to watch locals (or maybe actors!?) crafting statues made of wood.

Firstly, they showed us the different types of wood used to make the statues. Then, they guided us to the store: the store contains wonderful masterpieces.

As you may already know, I have some doubts about these workers:

1. you can find very similar (if not identical) statues at the stores in Ubud for a way lower price

2. one of the worker was polishing a wood statue which had already a price label.

Keep this in mind when contracting your price...
