My boyfriend and I joined a cooking class in Sumampan Restaurant during our stay in Thewakanda resort. It was just so much fun. The class was taught by Novita, Sriana and an assistant (I forgot to ask her name) in an outdoor pantry overseeing the rice fields, immersing in the peaceful vibes of the nature. The class included 3 courses in which we prepared the Balinese paste, chicken satays and a dessert in traditional Balinese way of cooking. Novita and Sriana were both so cheerful and friendly and patient in teaching. My boyfriend and I also got to know more about the local culture through chatting with them. At the end of the class, Novita demonstrated her plating skills and we enjoyed the delicious meal with the view of the rice fields. We got the recipes and even a certificate afterwards. A very enjoyable afternoon!
Separately, the food and service of the restaurant was exceptional. We were well-fed everyday...
Read moreThe food at Sumampan Restaurant inside the Wakanda Resort has been nothing short of absolutely DIVINE! From the pleasant and attentive staff, to the beautiful presentation and delicious food, the whole experience has been one of a kind. I wish i could stay forever!
I tried all the breakfasts during my stay and they were all amazing- I would really recommend the watermelon and pineapple juice, and the dragonfruit and banana juice too. The afternoon tea was so unique, and for dinner, The Nasi Goreng with chicken satay was the best I have had so far.
We also enjoyed a romantic 4 course candle lit dinner which we will remember forever.
Thankyou so much to all of the wonderful staff, especially Putu Eka ( plus many more whose name I did not catch) for making our stay so welcoming and tranquil. I cannot wait to come back again.
PS there is halal...
Read moreCooking class review: Lovely private cooking class just two of us, 3 course meal. We were introduced to all the ingredients, then did some chopping, along with the chef. Then smashing these up to form a paste which we used on most of the dishes. We learned about Balinese ingredients like the green pumpkin, candlenuts, and aromatic ginger. They made the full meal vegan for us, using tofu instead of meat. And tempeh in the soup. It was a mix of hands-on and chefs cooking. We cooked rice in the traditional way with fire, which we blew to fuel. We made all the dishes and desserts. The chef assembled them so beautifully and the staff talked us through everything. At the end we ate our lunch/dinner with the most stunning view. For a similar cost to a meal we got a full experience beside...
