Ill start with the positives, the food was amazing. I must say props to the chef. I had a fabulous and generously portioned meal for 9 the star is for the food as everything else went terribly. Following my graduation my family of 9 persons went to this hotel to enjoy a family meal. The first issue is in regards to building maintence. The dad cut through his trousers and his leg on a sharp protruding piece of metal acting as a box cover. You can see from the images attached that the cover is missing 2 rivents and is only secured in the middle. My dad brought this to the managers attention who came over to our table halfway through our meal dispiting it with him. He did offer to reduce the price of the meal by 15% however the suit was bought only that morning and that wouldnt cover the cost of a replacement pair of trousers. My dad explained that he didnt want ot have the argiment at the table while trying to enjoy the meal but the manager continued then offering 50€ off (which was less then 15% of our bill...) He said the general manager will be in touch and took our details so we are awaiting a call. We were initally sat at a high stoll table, we asked to swap to a lower table which was done for us no problem as my grandmother was unable to sit at the higher stool due to them not having back rests. We asked a girl who explained it was her fist day if we could mood and she went to ask another person. After about 5 minutes of talking and looking at us another memeber of the wait staff came over and said we could move. There was a bit of a wait for the starters and mains but nothing too extreme we were happy enough to wait. The same lady who moved us was quite rude when we were enquiring about the startes. The menu here has a "Lighter Dishes" section, we asked if that was there starter section and she clarified this to us in a way as if to say we were stupid. "Yeah... thats the starters, is there another quesiotn?". Desserts took quite some time to be brought our. We ordered 3 desserts as the generous portion sizes had us full up. They took 35 minutes to be brought out. I wonder if they were milking the cows in the back to make the cream. At the end of the meal the bill came out and didnt match the prices on the menu at all. Ive attached images of both their menu and the prices on our bill. We were too tired and warm at this point to bother arguing as the lady taking our bill was the same lady who had been rude earlier. The final kick in the teath was the phrasing of their tips. Menu states groups over 8 have gratuity of 10% included however on the bill it is down as suggested even though it is mandatory. Its only a small thing but it added insult to ingury. Previous vists to this place have been nice. Once i was sushed while entering their upstiars returaunt however I was apologised too after bringing it the the managers attention. I love the locaiton and food here but it has really given me a bad tatse now. I dont think me or my family will return which is a shame because we love their pizzas and come rather often.
UPDATE No contact from a manager as promised. Cowboy Buisness people operating in Barna. Anyone looking for a place to stay or eat - do not. Plenty of better options in Galway. Avoid this dump like the plague
Update again No hope in getting any help. Management have not contacted and when calling say they have no idea what I’m on about. Avoid...
Read moreI didn't stay, but I can see it is a lovely hotel, dog friendly too so it's not unusual to see dogs around the restaurant or lobby. I have dined in the restaurant many times, it is a lovely touch to be met by the nice gentleman and brought to your table, he obviously knows some of the diners and chats with them. There is a barman there too who is quite pleasant. I am sure staff have changed a lot since I was there and especially with lockdown, but a waitress that was there upset me quite a lot because I wanted to pay. She sent me to the bar to pay, but the barman sent me back to the restaurant to pay as he was caught up, he said it would be quicker, because she sent me to the bar, she just left me standing when I said can I pay here please. She kept clearing tables, there was no one else there, she huffed and puffed a lot and stormed past me after she cleared a few tables, she very rudely snapped at me that she told me to pay at the bar, she was clearly annoyed with me, that left me very upset. I just said I was sent back as the barman is busy. She had no customers and was just snappy with me, she was moaning that I was just standing there all this time, I didn't know what to do. She horridly beckoned to me to come over, I asked if she had a pay point there, she ignored me and made the whole paying process frosty, there was no thank you, just coldness and her shaking her head in annoyance with me. I was so embarrassed and didn't say anymore, barman looked over and said are you only paying now, I said yes, but its ok, ten minutes had gone by since I was at the bar. As I passed the bar the barman said, oh sorry about that. I wouldn't mind but I was a little hungry when I went there and wanted more than a starter but less than a main course, so I went for light bites, I chose something that was on the light bites menu - it was black pudding with something egg I think and I ordered coke and a coffee. The light bite was so tiny I was going to send it back and tell them I am not paying for that, it was an egg and a slice of black pudding and they charged something like €10 or €12 for it and it was gone in two bites, I would consider it a tiny starter not a light bite. I had to go to the Clybaun Hotel to get a light bite after. Most of my choices here has been steak and I will say they do a good steak and sauce, very nice but pricy for everything. I often bring my son too, he is 10 now and loves his food, he liked going there as a treat. I usually go there to feel good and have a nice relaxing time with good food, after the waitress upset me, it didn't feel the same going back. That day I went as my partner had died suddenly and I finished my first week at work since his passing and decided to treat myself to something nice, I was already vulnerable and didn't need that attitude, on my way out that day, I saw a side door across from the bar and I wanted to run out it, I had tears on my cheeks and I didn't want the barman to see so I turned my head now the diners could see. I like the place, but it has been tarnished for me. I used to love going there with my sons or many times on my own as a treat. It's unfortunate that bad service like this can take your nice relaxing place away even though I had nice service the other times. All that for 2...
Read moreWhen I was told about this hotel I wasn’t overly excited, but loved the fact we could bring our dog. Any time our dog sees our suitcases she gets sad, but was delighted to see us packing a little bag for her too. 🤩 on arrival the girl on desk (Clara young female) was a delight checking us in, even though I myself was tired didn’t talk much she was an absolute pleasure. Arriving to the room was incredible, it was big, you’ve to enter two door ways (Incase the dog decides to run, clever idea) there was a huge lobby room for the dog, blanket on the floor and dog bowls you also get complimentary water which was fantastic, there was a wardrobe that looked like a wardrobe until you open it up, it’s a bar with a sink, if you want to wash bowls etc the other room has a huge bed, very cosy, bathroom huge also, the room was huge in general 😍 When we settled down we noticed on the desk there was a welcome pack for our dog with her name on it & a HB card. I honestly thought it was the cutest thing ever, cause we did just stay in the hotel for our dogs birthday. So that was amazing. Breakfast was great, the morning servers were really nice. It was a pleasure to stay here. There is a little pier beside the hotel, and a small beach 2 minute drive up the road (stand beach) small but the dog loved it. Salt hill beach is about 7 minute drive. •The hotel also do chrome casts if you wanted to hook up to Netflix I thought that was pretty kewl. •Free WiFi •Two TVs in the room •complimentary water •welcome treats on arrival •Welcome doggie pack •spotless room •cosy bed and pillows •incredible staff who seem to love dogs
The only thing I can fault with the hotel is the main doors on the floor should be always kept open, also even though the “do not disturb” signs look great, they’re not reliable cause they’ll swing on there own, (the chain more so isn’t reliable) more poopy bins around the hotel, area, car park would be great too. When our dog did her business we looked all over for a bin and none to be found.
Though I wasn’t excited at first arriving in the room my whole mood changed I didn’t know what to expect. But the experience was fantastic. Our dog loved it all, the hotel really goes out of there way to do all the little things. And cater for dogs as much as they can. Great stay and I would love to go back down and have our dog stay here on her twelveth birthday at...
