My family and I stayed five nights at the Hotel Eden over the New Year break 2023/24. My family group was across the age range: teenagers, their parents and their grandmother. We all loved the easy, relaxed charm of this inviting three-star hotel. Hotel Eden is perfectly positioned on the seafront at the quiet end of Alassio. This review has been delayed by illness.
The host receptionists, Francesco and Martin, were excellent. They welcomed us warmly, were attentive and ready to help with our many questions about the locality. The other staff were also good-natured. The hotel was spotlessly clean.
The breakfast buffet suited us well. It was a wide assortment of good quality food, sweet and savoury, and homemade cakes fitting for breakfast. There was a good assortment of fruit in the fruit salad, which was refreshed frequently. I want to mention the excellent coffee because even four-star hotels often only provide self-service machine coffee. Having authentic Italian coffee served individually at the table and no problem with refills made all the difference. The waiting staff were attentive and kept the breakfast buffet replenished. It was a great pleasure to have breakfast in the heated, enclosed veranda with a panoramic view of the sweep of the bay.
The fact that the wicker beach furniture was left on the beach day and night for guests to enjoy indicated the hotel's thoughtful nature. Sitting there and watching the sea lapping the shore was a pleasure. The all-around basket work protected from any wind. The hotel also put out tables and chairs daily on the seafront, making it another pleasant place to sit, take in the views, and watch passers-by.
When we return, we will avoid the double bedroom overlooking the alley. The room was bare and void of decoration, unlike the other one, which was wallpapered nicely. My single bedroom overlooking the sea was typical of the turn of the 19th/20th century. I liked the traditional outside wooden shutters. Although small, the room had all I needed and many electrical sockets.
We hope to...

Read moreNot really my cup of tea I’m afraid. The hotel is indeed right on the beach front, and we had an elegant room with a balcony looking on to the beach; but the room (though high-ceilinged and recently refurbished) was small, and there was nowhere to put anything in the bathroom. No tea & coffee making facilities, and no water provided in the room; you had to buy it from the mini-bar. Dinner is served only between 7.30 and 8.30pm, with only three choices for each course! For lunch and dinner you are meant to pre-book by ticking your choices on a paper copy of the menu. There’s no bar as such, though wine is served with meals. Almost everyone staying at the hotel apart from us was part of an elderly Italian tour group. Dinner on the first evening was not inspiring, with pasta that seemed to be out of a packet, and sliced pork in a sauce that we found too salty. Breakfast was rather better, though the range of food was limited. I should say that all the staff we met on reception and in the restaurant did their best to be helpful and welcoming, and the location of the hotel is excellent – on a pedestrian promenade with no through traffic. This is an inexpensive three-star hotel which would suit the...
