My first thought when we arrived was that this place was much lovelier than the scant Tripadvisor reviews suggested. My husband and I stayed were originally booked to stay for three nights, but changed to one night as the reviews had made me nervous. I am grateful we kept that one night, and regret we did not stay longer.||What you see in the photos is what you get. The pool was very clean, even if a bit cold for me. The shaded gardens have plenty of lounge chairs to relax in, and are full of palm, lemon, olive trees and bushes blooming in the wildest of colors. It was a true oasis - very quiet and serene. We stayed in a Deluxe room in the stone building on top of the hill. We had a little balcony overlooking the garden, a good-size modern bathroom, and a kitchen/dining room area with a futon bed that probably could have slept two. The bedroom was simply decorated but very clean, with huge wardrobes. There is a safe and air conditioning (but only in the bedroom). ||The property consists of several buildings and is quite sprawling. The walk up the hill to our building was quite steep, but we appreciated the workout. It is right off the main road, so the rooms in the hotel proper which face the road are probably noisy. Our building was very quiet. The property's gates are locked around 11 pm, but you are given a key to let yourself in if you come back later than that (like us, since we dined in Gardone Riviera, about 20 minutes away by car). When the hotel is full, you may need to park a little further away from your room.||The clientele was mostly German and Czech, and they appeared to be repeat customers. There were several multi-generational families. Dogs are allowed in at least some of the rooms (I saw a friendly lab snoozing in the garden next to his owner). The staff is friendly and helpful and, depending on whom you get, speaks decent German and basic English. I found the breakfast lovely and the selection better than most Italian places. Other than the usual cold cut/cheese/sweet pastries offerings, there were soft-boiled eggs, home-made lemon preserves and fresh fruit. You can also purchase their lemons (which are much larger, paler in color and bumpier than American lemons) and olive oil. ||The property is definitely at least a 15-minute walk to the center of Gargnano. But you walk through a lovely residential area with much charm, narrow streets, and a combination of old stone houses and magnificent villas. This hotel is not luxurious, but it's a pleasant refuge on a beautiful lake which can be overrun with tourists if you stay in the...
Read moreWe travelled with some of my wife's cousins as part of an anniversary for her aunt and uncle and this is a hotel run by a man with incredible knowledge of local history. Years before, my wife's uncle learned of the owner's talent while the uncle was searching for his family roots. What we experienced was nothing short of amazing. Our group included ages 70's to teens and everyone loved this place. We asked for advice for dining, recreation, hikes and biking and were treated as family. This is not to say they weren't routinely busy managing everything that comes with a hotel in a tourist destination, but just asking for guidance and waiting for a lull in their busy schedule, we were treated to advice you would expect from only the best tour guides with local roots. Apparently there were many improvements made over the years with multiple several buildings in addition to the original. Different family groups stayed in different buildings and the newer buildings were quite modern, efficient, comfortable and beautiful. While my wife's uncle has Italian heritage, my family does not. Yet when we left we felt as though we were saying goodbye to long lost relatives and started thinking about how soon we could return. This place is a rare jewel maintained with pride by caring and loving people. ||||Regarding the style and amenities questions, I wish I had paid closer attention to the facilities regarding accessibility for mobility impaired guests, I believe everything was accessible but no one in our group could critically comment. I was unfamiliar with the term boutique hotel but certainly the newer sections...
Read moreWe had a remarkable stay at this beautiful hotel. The staff is so friendly and always goes the extra mile. I am bad with names, so: especially the blonde woman with the glasses, the bearded man and also their boss are wonderful human beings and are doing their job so excellently! |The whole hotel area is very beautiful. Laying under the olive tree with our dog (on his leash of course), reading and sipping a drink from the hotel bar - couldn’t get any better. |The pool has a descent size and has the right, refreshing temperature all day long. One of the best parts was that a beach from the lake was only 3 minutes walking distance away. It is either free (on the right hand side) but they also rent loungers there (doesn’t belong to the hotel). So nice for either spending the day at the beach or only for a quick dip in the evening before dinner. |The hotel is a bed and breakfast, so it is important to know that other full meals have to be taken elsewhere. However, they offer sandwiches, salads and other snacks for lunch. |It is very clean everywhere and housekeeping is around all morning. Our room was tidied every morning at the same time so quickly, we couldn’t even notice when they where there.|Parking was right around the corner to our pretty garden-room and they even have a garage for 2-3 cars, so it’s recommended to ask for it ahead of a stay if needed. |The stay was a 10 out of 10 and we will definitely return! Looking...
