Resume - 4/5 (TL;DR) It's a cozy place you can relax in or plan activities from with the additional comfort of being around staff which is down-to-earth friendly, extraordinarily professional and has time for you. The accomodation has an amazing view over lake Garda and all in all is okay, but you might want to bring ear plugs.
Accomodation - 3,5/5 We went as a party of four and booked a room for a max of six people. The appartment was divided into two bedrooms, one living room/kitchen with a couch (to also sleep on), a bathroom and a balcony with four seats plus parasol. We were provided fresh towels (two for each person), soap, showering gel and kitchen ware. All told, the appartment was very 90s but in decent condition BUT you had to pay extra if you wanted heating - kind of a downside. At the end of the week we cleaned out the garbage and did the dishes (not sure if neccessary) to leave the appartment how we found it. The receptionists and their service was exceedingly satisfying. We could ask them anything and would get an accurate answer. So that was perfect. Gotta finish with a downside: We had a room right under the restaurant, so within the active hours there were quite loud noises like screetching chairs, running kids and so on. We liked to sleep in, so that starting at around 7 a.m. was only avoidable by wearing ear plugs ;)
Restaurant/Bar - 4,5/5 The restaurant and bar are two "separate" entities. Problem was that on the Easter weekend the workers were understaffed and put the bar second, since there were more families than groups of childless b*stards ;). But they were professional about it and we did not mind waiting a couple extra minutes for the busy and eager people. We also got to know the staff over the week, since only the same guys worked there all week and almost all day (700-1300 hrs and 1700-2300 hrs) and they turned out to be hospitable, honest and real (meaning being themselves). But most importantly, they were one of the most professional gastronomes (especially the manager) I've ever come across. You would not find that for miles to come and it is an experience I'd recommend you shared with other visitors. Additionally, we had dinner at the restaurant four times. The first, we had the pre-set course menue (20€ without drinks, which is a steal) and it was a touch and go. We took the typically Italian food from a choice of food (appetizer, first course, second and dessert) and the overall quality and quantity was almost perfect. But when we ate a-la-carte the next couple of times we were suprised over and over again. This was, in contrary to the rest of the beforementioned menue, completely traditional food (variety of noodles with different sauces, local meat, fish, tiramisu, cake, appetizer plates and so on). We were told by the staff, that the menue is very tourist and German, which is true. I would not recommend it and there are lightyears between a-la-carte and the course menue regarding quality and the love the competent cooks put in there. Additionally, you will also pay roughly 20€ for a full 3-course menue plus a chef's delicacy on the house. But in any case the personell will support you in choosing the right wine or beer or even schnaps for your food. I've not eaten that kind of quality food in a while.
Location - 4/5 For our group without children we obviously did not focus on that sort of stuff, but it is an extremely family and child friendly environment, starting with the staff and ending with diversive activities. Aside from that, you could go hiking, biking, play chess, hit the gym or the pool or choose from other outdoor activities provided by the front desk. There is plenty to do right there, or you could leave by car (and bus) for other destinations around...
Read moreWe stayed in one of the self catering apartments with a lake view balcony. The views really are incredible and all facilities very clean and well looked after. The staff here were very friendly and helpful, in particular with a late check in and early check out. Pool is cleaned each day and makes for a very relaxing day with easy access to your apartment if needed. There is plenty of safe parking at the hotel, with garages being optional. The rooms are well sized and set of sheets are provided on arrival, although you do have to make your own beds. We ate at the restaurant which again offers stunning views of the lake and mountains and food was very tasty and well presented. As a resident at the hotel you will also receive 10% off your bill eating there. Gluten free meals can be well accommodated and as a coeliac I managed to eat very well buying gluten free food from the local supermarket and restaurants around the lake. Al Torrchio in the local town of Gardola has a specific gluten free menu. The only negative about this place is its location in terms of driving, the road is very windy and at points only allows for one way traffic. Although we would definitely return to this hotel again, I would recommend experienced drivers only to try this journey. The local supermarket is very cheap and offers a good variety of foods, however there is no oven or microwave in the apartment which was disappointing. The local town of Gardola is bigger than first perceived and there are several restaurants, bars and shops. You can either park here or take the woodland walk down...
