In short: Disorganised reception, dirty rooms, disappointing Spa area, not enough parking space (if it's full, you have to park at the bus station), rude staff & owner, loud guests.
Firstly, the hotel does not look at all like it does present itself on the website. I drove past it as I did not recognise it.
Disorganised Reception: Upon arrival, we asked about booking a time slot for the (100€!) spa treatment, which we had booked with the room directly on the hotel's website. The receptionist affirmed us strongly that we hadn't booked any such treatment, but we should check with the Spa reception. There the same thing happened. No treatment booked. Back to the hotel reception, we asked for a print out of our booking details and what did the receptionist find on the backside? A confirmation about our spa treatment, which he was so adamantly denying that we had booked it. Also, this took 3 hours to figure out and no apology was offered.
Dirty Rooms: See the pictures attached. Especially the shower was infested with scum and mold. The overhead shower-head has not been cleaned in months (thick layer of dust on my fingers, after I tried adjusting it). And we were put into a room with a connecting door to another occupied room (for 140€/night!). The smoke-alarm was missing, posing a big security threat (and I am pretty sure this breaks some health & safety rules). Bed resembles more an army-bed then a hotel-bed. Quite run down equipment and terrible view of car parks and dirty backyards.
Disappointing Spa Area: Firstly, no-one knows how big it is: Hotels website says 1400sqm, leaflets in the room say 1200sqm. Fact is: it feels a lot smaller, as it is split up over 4 floors and the main area downstairs with the indoor pool is crammed at all times with people. It is just too small for the amount of guests. (don't be fooled by the pictures on the website: there are no artificial candles burning for an atmospheric lightning, also you have to wear a ridiculous plastic hair net, which the rude Spa staff makes sure you are wearing, as they are patrolling the area). Also the sauna with the "panoramic view" is a bad joke, as I do not consider a view of another hotel and people walking around (you're view is on feet level, with the sauna being slightly underground) panoramic.
Car Park: It was pretty full all around the hotel with cars when we arrived (adds to the panoramic view), but when we came back from a short trip, the valet guy, who served everyone in front of us, said there is not enough space for our care and we have to park at the local bus station. Very disappointing and posing a threat to our belongings. Also, upon inspecting the carpark from our balcony view, we saw there certainly was enough space, if the valet guy knew how to use space efficiently.
Staff (& Owner): On several occasions the staff has proven to be very rude to us (especially to me as a non-italian speaker). After waiting for 15 minutes at the table in a pretty empty restaurant, I walked up to the bar and asked for a coffee (in my broken italian), the staff turned around, looked at me, turned back again. (Do I need to say more?). Upon checking out and voicing our disappointment with the hotel, the receptionist was more concerned with pointing out what we had done wrong, instead of offering an apology. The owner (we guess), who watched and stood next to this, did not feel the need to intervene at any moment.
Loud Guests: As we were placed in a room with a connecting door, we were in the fortunate position to listen to our room neighbours having very loud intercourse for 5 times between 22:30 and 8:00 in the morning. Even after shouting through the door to be a bit quieter (I really do not have anything against couples enjoying their time together, but be a bit respectful of others) our neighbours did not show any sign of consideration or restraint. First class brother atmosphere.
Fazit: I am sad about every minute and euro we have spend in this "4-Star"...
Read moreSpent 3 nights with myself and my wife plus our adult son. We were in Italy for the primary reason being to ride the GranFondo Campagnolo Roma 2019 (my son & I were riding). Booked for 3 nights at the Silva prior to the event with the purpose of having some recovery time from flights etc and assembling and checking bikes. We had already booked accommodation in Rome so didn't take the GranFondo package offered by the Hotel.||So review in parts:|1. The hotel and facilities definitely allowed us time to recover from long haul flights. The spa, heated pool and facilities were all immaculate and allowed for afternoon relaxation.|2. Food was good and plentiful especially as part of the cycling package. Buffet breakfast, cycling package to take on our rides (fruit, roll, biscuit), 3 course lunch on return and evening dinner. Plus included wine and water. The restaurant staff were also some of,the most pleasant people we met during our visit to Italy|3. Cycling was excellent. Adriano, the cycling manager lead us on 2 guided rides, and structured those rides to absolutely meet our requirements to taper our training prior to the GranFondo. My son and I had both bought our own bikes which we were able to leave in the secure cycling store and workshop and also had access to the workshops or assembling and bike set up. My wife used a hire bike available from the hotel, and opted for an ebike (a first experience) giving the hilly terrain. The quality of the hire bikes is excellent and includes Bianchi and Pinarello bikes and I would recommend considering hiring rather than transporting your own bike (although check what gearing you want for some of the climbs).||In summary highly recommended, good hotel with fantastic staff in all parts of the hotel functions and especially Adriano the Cycling Manager. There are an amazing choice of cycling routes that could fill up a full weeks stay at the hotel.||Just an aside, nothing to do with the hotel but The GranFondo was something of a shambles. On the Friday before the event the organizers announced that they didn't have the required permits so shortened the ride from 120km to 58km!. We would have been better of staying a the Silva for the extra time. Personally I would advise against traveling to take part in...
Read moreMy wife and I visited Fiuggi and stayed at Silva Hotel Splendid for a week in May 2019 and had one of the best vacations of our lives. I am a cyclist and had the opportunity to go out and explore the countryside with the guide/bike manager Adriano on an exceptional Italian-made Pinarello road bike on 3 separate days. Yes there are hills but the scenery is breathtaking and well worth the sweat and effort. What I didn't realize was how amazing it feels to relax in a spa after a workout and relaxed in all 3 three levels of options the hotel had to offer almost every single day. Normally when visiting Italy, you must eat at certain times of the day but Silva is very accommodating to cyclists given they may return at different times during the day. As I am celiac, I must eat gluten free but this was not an issue as the hotel had many options for me to choose from with each and every meal. Although communication in English may be a bit difficult with some of the staff (you're really in the heart of Italy here!) they make an effort to explain things to you so you know what you are ordering. The buffer on the weekend is great but we enjoyed the special meals prepared on the weekdays. I also really appreciated the laundry service for my cycling gear. The village is so quaint and there may not be much in the sense of big name stores but this allows you to experience Italy as it should be. We liked it there so much, we didn't bother visiting Rome for a day trip and decided we would do that on another trip. All in all, we hope we get a chance to go back and visit again.. it was so relaxing and exactly...
