We booked the hotel Grazia Alla Scannella on the beautiful island of Ischia purely because of its location and views , knowing it was going to be our first holiday in 6 years , to make sure my husband and I had a complete rest .|The transfer wasn’t too bad at all - Mini bus from airport to ferry - ferry across ( please be aware they serve drinks on the ferry and they are on the steep end of expensive . A water and a small beer €10 ! |Anyways off the ferry and another mini bus to the hotel where we were greeted by the very charming Ahmed who showed us around - and then took us personally to our room after explaining we’d had an upgrade - to a sea view . Feeling absolutely chuffed we arrived in our room and as per our upgrade we saw the sea . Lovely …. |Unfortunately I couldn’t fit in the shower … the opening would be tough for the slimmest of guests . My husband found our new friend and he organised another room immediately. Again the shower was the same design . It was getting extremely embarrassing and made me anxious. |We waited about 10 mins and then showed to our Room for the next two weeks that had the most amazing shower and panoramic views of the med . Lovely little room with typically Italian designs , great balcony looking over the pool to the front and side views of the beautiful sea . We couldn’t be happier . All met with apologies from the chief housekeeper . ||We opted for breakfast only , as we wanted the option of trying other food other than the hotels , knowing if we needed an evening meal it was € 20 each for 4 courses this was advertised on their website the week before we went . Very reasonable option we thought . |We immediately found out that this price had jumped to €35 each . |It put a dampener on the holiday from the start as did the limited snack menu that we had a try of soon after we arrived . We had a drink with our snack of bruschetta and smoked salmon , me having a gin and tonic @ €16 ? And my husband a local beer at a more reasonable €6 ||The pool looked inviting but we settled in that night after travelling since 3.30am expecting a great peaceful nights sleep . |First thing in the morning as we are early risers to catch the cooler sun , we went to breakfast . I must commend the hotel as it was a truly fantastic spread . From|Cereals to yoghurts , fresh honey and beautiful jams , cooked items including each type of egg , bacon ( well Parma ham ) and hotdogs for sausages - no complaints there though . Pancakes , fresh fruits and every type of bread and pastry you could think of . |The waiters who were so professional attended every table as we came in , and after a few days would get to know the orders by heart , especially my husbands order of an “ American “ type latte . |The waiting staff and chefs were all very polite and all spoke enough English and a few speaking more than one other language . |Breakfast was a huge thumbs up . Evening meal , talking to many guests we felt was rushed but well catered for . |The weather in July / August goes with out saying … but it was Hot !!! |Thank goodness for the Lovely air conditioning everywhere including our room was greatly appreciated. |There was also a lift . A god send when going up to the 2nd floor for me but I always walked down . |We didn’t use the spa facilities. |Back to the only complaint about the pool was the racket from the three pipes on the length side which filtered the water in and out . They were obviously broken as the noise was incredibly loud . Enough to make many guests stuff them with anything they could to stop the noise . Seems trivial but when you were around the pool for 14 days it did grip you . Something the hotel could address at some point - this wasn’t just a complaint from us - but most who lay by the pool . |The housekeeping was impeccable. Fresh white sheets, and white towels that were changed daily . Beautiful. |The free transport to the beach at Citari and Forio town was so important as they were the nearest places apart from a small village called Panza which was too far to walk aswell where you could stock up on bigger bottles of water or drinks for the room - avoiding the mini bar prices . ||The one major fault of the hotel itself was probably something that can’t be changed . The NOISE . |The keys in the doors were heavy and tags on them made of brass - which banged against the doors when people returned to the rooms or exited at all times of the day and night . The noise from guests arguing , and even talking loudly was infuriating - especially as the rooms were quite close together . The noise from The Entertainer … a very out dated “turn” that just went on and on with the same old very old fashioned music . It could be heard from most of the hotel , including our lovely upgrade as we were immediately above it two floors up and couldn’t escape it sometimes till 12 at night . At times we thought we could have been in the worst hotels in Benidorm or Blackpool . It was a major laughing point between guests - something the hotel must address if they are to sell themselves as an up market Spa hotel . |Bar staff were brilliant and funny , kudos to Pasquel and Gaetano . Reception with Ahmed , Michael and another lovely lady whose name I didn’t catch all brilliant and knew how to treat the guests . ||We will remember the island with some fondness , the hotel was lovely but needed improvement in a few areas including softer pillows and mattresses, but overall if you want a view and sunsets that will stay in your memories forever … this is the...
Read moreWe have just returned from a wonderful stay at Hotel Grazia Alla Scannella. ||In short, I think the hotel is perfect for short breaks. Couples, girls trips, mother daughter breaks etc I say this as the area is quite isolated, perhaps if we were staying for over a week we might want to be in a more lively area. ||The hotel is situated in quiet part of Ischia, which suited us perfectly for a 5 night stay.|We planned to catch up on some rest and relaxation, which was easily achieved here! ||We did hire a scooter for 3 days and visited beaches, Giardini la Mortella (a must!) and Castello Aragonese d'Ischia (go early, it’s a tough climb in the mid day heat) we also visited a few beaches. It wouldn’t be a great place if you want to be able to walk around/shop/visit other bars restaurants in the evening. ||We were originally allocated room 222 which was lovely and had the most incredible view. I couldn’t believe our luck as the balcony offers a panoramic sea view. The bathroom was particularly small and the shower very low pressure. We would have happily put up with this however, we did ask to move rooms due to the room being above the bar, which is rather noisy every night until midnight. Perhaps if we were visiting for a more social/ drinking holiday this wouldn’t have bothered us. It was amplified by an extremely loud neighbour who was in and out of her friend/family room directly next door long after the bar closed. After getting up at 2am to catch our flight, we were incredibly tired and the disturbed nights sleep wasn’t an ideal first impression. This was not solely the hotels fault but did confirm we wanted to be in a quieter space. ||The reception team at the hotel were all incredible, the staff here are some of the best I’ve ever experienced in any hospitality setting. We were shown a room on the other side of the hotel, 108, still had a sea view and a much better bathroom. We were much happier here, we could occasionally hear the entertainment at night and I would agree that the sound does travel around the hotel corridors. We could occasionally hear neighbours and people unlocking their doors which echoed down the tiled hallways.||The terrace and pool area are fantastic. There are plenty of sun beds and you do not feel like you’re all packed in. No early morning sun bed hogging! Generally just a nice, relaxing and welcoming area. The pool does make a gurgling sound which I guess has something to do with the pumps, the area would be improved if this sound was not there but we got used to it. ||Breakfast is fantastic. Thank you to the chef who made me fresh crepes on several occasions. Thank you to the wonderful wait staff. You are all fantastic and I hope the management team knows that you add so much value to the hotel! ||We also opted to have dinner at the hotel, we were not disappointed! Again, the staff are incredible. They are all exceptionally professional, polite and by the end, seemed to know what our orders would be. The attention to detail was incredible. The food was great, delicious from start to finish. Thank you again to the amazing wait and kitchen staff. ||We also used the spa a couple of times, it is nice but dated and would benefit from some attention. Still, the warm waters are a lovely addition to a stay here. I opted to have a back massage which was quick (30 minutes) but at a discounted price due to the voucher you get on arrival, I couldn’t complain! I felt thoroughly relaxed. ||Thank you to all of the wonderful staff who took such good care of us and our surrounding...
Read moreMyself and my husband stayed at The Grazia Alla Scannella in September for one week. It was a present for my upcoming 60th birthday and it was the best present I could have had. |Staying at the hotel is a tonic in itself. It has an old world charm to it, a magical atmosphere and a special unique light of its own. Even the wall edges are rounded, everything designed to calm and relax the senses. You can imagine film stars of old staying here, recharging their batteries. |The rooms are comfortable, charming and the views are to die for (we had a Superior sea view room), the restaurant has crisp white tablecloths on their tables with Silver Service and the bar area was relaxing, comfortable with sea views all around. The perfect place for a coffee or an Aperol Spritz. |You can spend your time eating, relaxing and indulging at the hotel or you can use it as a base for exploring around the island. The Hotel even has a shuttle bus that can take you to and from Forio for shopping, exploring and lunch or to the beach. |There were many things that appealed to me about this hotel but there were 3 things that were stand out for me. |Firstly was the food. It was plentiful and to chef standard. Varied, delicious and perfectly cooked. Breakfast was a feast. There was a buffet of a plethora of dishes of everything that you could possibly wish for with a hot breakfast cooking station where you could choose the filling of the omelette of your choice, have cooked breakfast or pancakes. They even made their own doughnuts. The coffee was rich and copious, just what I need in the mornings. |Dinner was on another level up. We sat at our set table every evening with white crisp tablecloths with silver service, our own waiters attentive to our every need. Firstly there was the antipasti where you could choose |from a plethora of dishes to whet your appetite but don’t overdo it as next comes your Primi, first course, choice from the menu followed by your Secondi and then dessert, all perfectly cooked and amazing. ||The next standout is the service from the hotel staff to the restaurant staff and waiters. Everyone makes you feel welcome and very very special. Nothing is too much trouble. Dining is the time when you feel the most special I think because the waiters are so friendly and attentive. All overseen by the amazing head waiters/managers who greet you personally, overseeing everything, making sure all runs smoothly and to perfection. ||The next standout is actually the Hotel Spa. We often like to have a relaxing hot stone massage on our holidays and the one that we had there was to outstanding. Very relaxing and professional but this Spa has not only many other treatments on their listings but also a long m, winding indoor hot pool. We had thought to visit the Poseidon Gardens which have the hot springs (a cost of around €50 per person) but we realised that the heated pool here was actually supplied by hot natural springs also, all on our doorstep at the hotel (remove all silver jewellery. This was how we knew that they were indeed mineral thermal springs. They have a temporary reaction to silver). |There is an outdoor plunge pool and a deep, plunge, heated thermal jacuzzi all underneath the lemon and orange trees and all set in stunning gardens with far reaching sea views ahead of you where you can sit and read a book or sunbathe on the beds provided there. |All in all a holiday to...
