Ristorante La Pagliarella — Restaurant in Forio

A resturant to avoid. Sadly we had a very bad experience at this neighbourhood restaurant. They are under equipped, understaffed, and overpriced.

We made a booking for 15 people and as requested by the chef in advance, we only ordered two courses and three dishes across the group. Bruschetta followed by spaghetti al pomodoro or pesce del giorno.

There was an unfortunate power cut, but we were told other than eating via candle light, it would have no effect on the kitchen. So we stayed. This was a mistake.

The meal took nearly three hours! With a 1 hour wait for the spaghetti and those that ordered fish waited a 2.5 hour delay. There was very little communication from the kitchen on why it was talking so long. We ran out of wine after an hour and could not prder more. However other tables were being served.

The spaghetti was ok, but the fish was poor. Oily, badly presented and not a full portion see photo. Considering it was over 20 Euro's, this is a bad joke.

There was no apology, no discount offered or free glass of house wine.

Ischia is a lovely island, with some lovely restaurants and great food on nearly every corner, but please avoid...

Very local and cozy dining experience, if you want to dine like a local this is the place.

For tourists who do not speak Italian (like me), here is what I know about this place: opens around 8pm; locals kept on arriving until 9.30-10pm if the lights are on and music is playing, the place is open this is a one man shop - the owner Enzo cooks and serves and takes orders there isn’t a fixed menu - I was asked whether I want fried or grilled fish, meat, shellfish, pasta, etc if you want quick food this is not the place for you; for context I arrived at 8.30pm, ordered at 8.40, got my pasta dish at 9.30, fish at 9.45 and salad at 10pm bruschetta was delicious; I also had aglio olio (2 dishes), one grilled fish and a salad total came to €68 and they take...

Prima di raccontare la mia esperienza in questo locale va fatta una considerazione preliminare: il proprietario è anche lo chef e da quanto ho capito è l'unico a lavorare in cucina. Detto questo posso dire che sono andato a cena li due volte in tre giorni, mi sono trovato molto bene: per la freschezza del pesce e in generale per la cucina. Il mio suggerimento è di prenotare non solo il posto (non ci sono molti posti a sedere) ma anche per anticipare i piatti richiesti, in particolare se si vuole mangiare il coniglio all'ischitana, per i tempi di cottura, vi consiglio di prenotarlo. In questo modo non si attende tutto il tempo di cottura e potrete gustare un piatto davvero buono, io l'ho trovato davvero squisito! Per quanto riguarda il pesce è freschissimo e anche in questo caso se volete del pesce arrosto il consiglio è di anticiparlo nella prenotazione, lo chef fa la spesa la mattina e vi prenderà qualcosa di ottimo per un arrosto. La seconda sera ho richiesto il pesce arrosto ed è stato ottimo e freschissimo! Certo nonostante la prenotazione dei piatti se ci sono un po' di persone nel locale i tempi di attesa si allungheranno un po' ma ne vale davvero la pena.
