I’ve waited over a year to leave this review because we were waiting for our credit card company to clear the fraud refund, and for the dispute period to end. From the beginning there was a feeling that something was off in the hotel. The location has potential but the hotel is mismanaged and has an ant infestation. When we arrived for a 5 night stay, they took payment for the entire stay up front, which seemed a bit unusual but makes sense in hindsight.
A staff person showed us to our room and when he opened the door it was unmade and a mess from previous guests. He took us back to the lobby and after a while took us to a different room. It was smaller and not as expected, but seemed ok and the staff said they’d see about transferring us to the original room once it was made up.
One of the desk agents was supposed to book some reservations and day trips for us, we followed up with her a few times over the first night there and each time she seemed to have no idea about our previous conversations, even though she wrote notes in her notebook.
The second morning we woke up there I felt something crawling on me and flicked it off. It was an ant, it was gross, but I thought it was just a single incident. I got up and was going to go to the restaurant to get coffee, and when I turned the bathroom light on I saw little black specs crawling all over the white tile floor. I freaked out and turned all of the lights on throughout the room and realized that the entire floor was covered in ants. There was a trail of them coming through the patio doors (which were closed and locked). The ants were everywhere - all over our luggage and clothes, on the bed, everywhere.
I called the front desk and they offered to have someone come and clean the room, but you can’t just clean an infestation. They told us “we are in wilderness, this is to be expected” and I could tell that this wasn’t the first time this had happened. I said we’d be leaving immediately and they needed to refund us for the remaining nights. They said that we could leave but they wouldn’t offer us any refund because it’s against their policy, and that we wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else to stay. The front desk person even said that they called other hotels and there were no rooms available for us.
We packed up and went to the front desk. I again demanded a refund, and told them that if they didn’t provide one we would just report them for fraud. They eventually said they’d refund us for the remaining nights but would have to wait for the manager to come in and said they’d be in touch. We left without any refund to another hotel without confirmation that they’d even have space for us, we just had to get out of there right away. We went to the Grand Tritone and the only room available was their largest suite, but we were just happy to be anywhere but the Sant Andrea.
When I contacted Sant Andrea over the next few days - at first by email and a couple of times by phone - they asked for our bank account information and said they would send a wire. We just wanted a refund to the card that we paid with, not a wire. They stopped responding to email and when I called they would ask me to wait and then I’d hear them talking in the background and they’d come back and tell me the manager wasn’t in and would call me back. We never received a call back and ultimately reported the transaction as fraud to our credit card company once we were home a week later. The credit card company refunded the entire transaction within a month of us getting home. I can’t imagine what we would have done if we didn’t have the ability to pay for another hotel stay at the same time as not having received any money back from the refund, and now I know that’s why they make you pay up front. I took videos but can’t upload them, so these are screenshots - they barely capture the reality and feeling of having ants literally crawling all over you. Stay...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing! From the minute we arrived until we sadly had to go home we were treated like royalty. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. From arranging a wine tour to mixing up cocktails to our taste in the evenings they made the holiday even more special. On our first night we met Placido who organised a cookery class in the hotel kitchen with Pietro the chef where we made stuffed courgette flowers, gnocchi and ravioli all from scratch. Placido took pictures and videos of us cooking complete with some Italian themed music and we had the bestest of fun with everyone.
The hotel itself is in a beautiful setting with views to positano and priano. The hotel offers a shuttle bus service to both of these places throughout the day which we used daily. The restaurant for breakfast offers a good range of food served out on the terrace with delightful views. We ate a couple of lunches here and bar snacks by the pool and a meal in the hotel restaurant. Food was delicious every time and cooked to perfection. Our room was lovely and spacious with a terrace overlooking the sea. It had an outdoor shower which someone previously had given a negative review but we both loved it! The bed was also firm but very comfy and we had great nights sleep.
While we did tour around the area, we did spend a lot of time at the hotel enjoying its peacefulness and tranquility and stunning views. While the hotel would be ok for children, it was mostly couples and the families there had older children that we saw there. We had previously been on a holiday to Greece with our children so we wanting a relaxing couples break and we were not disappointed.
The pool isn’t huge but a nice size and there are enough sun beds for the people wanting to sunbathe. You can get lunch and drinks served at the pool and towels are provided.
The hotel is in a great location for positano and priano but also amalfi and ravello. We hired a Vespa for 24 hours and took a spin to a Amalfi. Roads quite busy with lots of other scooters but views were stunning and we had great fun.
We would definitely come back just to stay at this hotel. There is nothing I could...
Read moreHotel Piccolo Sant’Andrea is, without question, the best the Amalfi Coast has to offer. Our stay was nothing short of perfect. The owners and their staff will make you feel as though this heaven is your home, too. Simply the best stay you’ll find! I stayed a few nights during my honeymoon, and couldn’t be happier I did. The rooms are exquisite, the food is amazing, and the views are surreal. Upon our arrival, Dilly greeted us, who owns the property with her husband, Odi. She showed us to our room after we checked in, and gave us a brief tour of the property. The private rooms/terraces with the breathtaking views, the hotel, generally, with its perfect decor, and the amenities and overall ambiance really are the gold standard here in Italy. A trip to their restaurant upstairs will deliver a first-rate meal served with the utmost class. Jean Pierre and Sabrina waited on us each evening and you could not ask for better service than these two seamlessly offer. A trip to the hotel bar and you’re sure to enjoy incredible cocktails prepared by either Sebastian or Catello - the presentation is topped only by the flavor profiles of the beverages the hotel offers. And even the wine offerings surpassed our expectations. The outdoor pool is something from a story book, and the spa (with its Turkish bath house, sauna, and heated indoor pool) is utter tranquility. And if you’re fortunate enough to get to spend any time with Odi and Dilly during your stay, you’ll quickly come to understand how much they care about the experience their guests have with them. It shows. What’s more, their entire team embodies the same values—their service is second to none.Though I’m not one to post reviews online, on this rare occasion I was just blown away and would’ve been remiss had I not raved about Hotel Piccolo Sant’Andrea, as I hope others will get to enjoy this gem. From Chicago to New York, Rome to Positano, you won’t find a better hotel with which to spend your days and nights. I highly, highly recommend. 5 Stars...
