I had the absolute worst dining experience at the “Dolce Vista” in Praiano. After five days of culinary heaven on the Amalfi coast, we wanted to end our holiday in the restaurant situated above our BnB. We ordered an Aperol Spritz as an aperitif and only got it at the same time as our starter. Caprese salad and Aperol Spritz are not exactly a tasty combo. But hey, we started with the Caprese. We had eaten it several times in different restaurants, so we were disappointed to find shriveled up basilicum and dried out rucola. We ended up just eating the mozzarella, which was good. The main dish came and we had to remind the waiter for our glass of white wine. He came with a whole bottle of warm white wine, saying we could taste it warm whilst he went to get the ice bucket. When my wife reminded him that we only ordered a glass, he mumbled something and filled our glasses completely with the warm wine and took the bottle with him. The main dish was served and I had a pasta with clams and mussels. Half of the shells were empty and the rest were tiny mussels in shells colder than the wine. By that time I had enough of this disastrous meal. I told the waiter about the cold non-existing mussels, the warm wine and the shriveled up vegetables of the Caprese. The waiter was unbelievably arrogant, asking me where I was from, and when he learned I was from Belgian, he smirked and concluded that I had no idea what the Italian kitchen was about, and treated us as if we were just another couple of ignorant tourists. I am 60 years old and well travelled, my wife and I are foodies and love tasting local specialities. A peace offering came in the form of one glass of white wine, assuming my wife was happy with the warm wine. I refused. The service was abysmal, and the food not worthy of the quality usually found here in Praiano. The view from the restaurant is breathtaking but that’s where it ends. We paid the full price just for eating a ball of mozzarella accompanied by an Aperol Sprite. We didn’t touch the warm wine and left the horrible main dish on the table I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone...
Read moreI don't normally leave reviews, but I decided to leave one after having such a horrible experience at this restaurant.
My husband and I wanted to have a special dinner while away and thought this would be a suitable spot due to the view.
The night of our dinner I ordered a steak, cooked rare, my husband had a seafood dinner. Upon getting my steak I cut into it and it was well done on the edges and medium on the inside. I politely sent the steak back and was supposed to have one brought out cooked properly.
After about 20 minutes I went to inquire about the status of the steak because my husbands food is now cold.
I was yelled at by the manager and told that my attitude was out of line and that it is unacceptable. I simply inquired about my food as now both dinners were ruined (cold cooked seafood).
Needless to say on the way out we were confronted by 3 restaurant staff and they continued to yell about how unacceptable "my" behaviour was.
Im paying for a service, your service was sub par, it not only ruined one meal, it ruined two. My behaviour in complaining and asking for an update is not unreasonable, the level of service and execution of cooking was.
I have never witnessed this appalling behaviour by any restaurant staff in my whole life. We were so embarrassed and concerned at the outcome of this situation. The fact it got this out of hand is absolutely disgusting and frankly scary. We are tourist in a foreign country and to have 3 men yelling at you while trying to address a problem and then leave is more than scary.
Would not recommend this...
Read moreWe first walked into La Dolce Vista for an early afternoon aperitif/drink as we had just returned from Capri and Positano was looking too busy for a relaxing afternoon. We parked our car in our garage (right across from the restaurant) and made an on-the-spot decision to walk straight into the restaurant. We walked in and were the only ones there at first. As the sun set, multiple people walked in for drinks as well. The restaurant has the best views of most on the Amalfitano. We were not very hungry and tried to order an appetizer of pizza but they didn’t serve it until dinner (I think after 7:30). We went home, cleaned up and decided to cancel our reservation at Il Pino and go back to Dolce vista for a less formal light dinner and wine. Our waiter was awesome. He took his time making some recommendations based upon our conversation and man, he was spot on! I spent 3 1/2 years living in Italy about 35 miles north east of Amalfi. I grew up in NY and consider myself well versed on pizza. I grew up in NY and consider myself very versed in food, especially pizza, and I have to say, even though I always order “plain” margarita pizza (and prefer it over anything) their pizza marinara (sauce, garlic and oregano) was the BEST PIZZA I’ve ever had! So good we had 1 margarita and two marinara’s. It was delicious!!! They had some great local wines as well. All in all, the four of us had a wonderful time at the restaurant and will be back, the next time we...
