It was my 50th Birthday early this year and due our daughter's school commitments, we were unable to get away. My husband suggested I look for somewhere special over the school holidays. One of the main things I looked for was good food and judging by the reviews, I thought this hotel would be a good choice. Breakfast was good apart from the chef's inability to cook eggs. My husband had to return burnt fried eggs one morning. I had scrambled another morning and they were tasteless. The coffee was very good and the choice of fresh fruit and pastries were excellent. The food was definitely hit and miss most nights. I had to return dishes on some occasions and just not eat what I received on other occasions. We got lamb one of the nights which had very little meat and chunks of fat. Disappointing as lamb is my favourite and I cook it a lot at home. I showed the waiter and he apologised and took it away. He asked if I wanted anything else and I declined. Shortly afterwards, a slice of cake appeared on the table and when I told the waiter that we didn't order a slice of cake he said it was as an apology. I thought offering a slice of cake to 3 people to share between us for having a bad meal was laughable. I asked the waiter to send it back and I said it would be nice if the chef just didn't send out inedible food. I looked at other people that had the lamb and it was all left on their plates but they didn't appear to complain. It was such a waste of food. I asked for the semifreddo one night and was given a panna cotta. The cost of wine is extortionate and I have never stayed in a hotel where I refuse to pay that much for a bottle of wine or even a glass. I'm aware the wines are good but I have stayed in other hotels where the wines are good. It dampened our enjoyment of the meal as we enjoy a glass of wine with our meal while on holiday. I feel like the restaurant is like the story of 'The Emperor's New Clothes' and I'm the child pointing out the obvious; just because everyone is saying something is good doesn't mean that it's true. ||The ambiance of the hotel felt cold, sterile and overly formal, lacking the warmth and inviting atmosphere of a welcoming hotel. There is a sense that the hotel caters to a specific, wealthy clientele, and the staff treat guests based on their perceived social standing. This negatively affected our overall experience, and deterred any future visits. We left to go walking most days and we did not look forward to returning due to this.||I want to finish on a positive note. In relation to the food, we found the desserts were nice. The location of the hotel is very good. The hotel decor is beautiful. The room was spacious although very warm while we were staying. We asked for a fan which was swiftly provided. Housekeeping was excellent. The facilities at the spa were very good. It was nice to have a gym for our daughter although she mentioned that more than two people was cramped. There was one particular waitress that was...
Read moreWarning: Beware of this hotel - they have a serious issue with housekeeping mishandling valuable personal belongings!
It’s truly unfortunate to write such a negative review, especially because the hotel itself has a charming ambiance. However, my encounter with the owners and housekeeping staff was nothing short of a nightmare, leaving me with one of the most horrendous hospitality experiences I’ve ever had.
During our three-night stay, I encountered a distressing incident. As part of my nightly routine, I placed my mouth retainer in a glass cup with blue cleaning solution near the sink. To my dismay, when I returned from a day-long hike, the cup was empty, and my retainer was nowhere to be found. I immediately reported the situation to the front desk, and a housekeeper was brought to my room. While she admitted pouring the water into the sink, she claimed the retainer was mysteriously absent from the cup. This routine had been ingrained in me for 15 years, and I strongly suspect that the housekeeper accidentally disposed of it in the toilet and flushed it away. It’s important to note that retainers are not only expensive, costing upwards of $500, but they also require weeks to be remade.
The following day, I approached Bibiana, one of the owners, hoping for a solution. Unfortunately, her response was far from helpful. She dismissed my concerns, suggesting I shouldn’t be angry and advising me to pray to the saints for its recovery. It was only on the last day of our stay, after two days of hardship, that she reluctantly offered a meager 10% discount, which amounts to approximately $150. Clearly, this gesture falls far short of compensating for the considerable expense of replacing the retainer. I suspect the owner’s primary motivation was to prevent negative feedback rather than genuinely addressing the issue.
Overall, this experience proved to be both disheartening and financially burdensome. The owners displayed rudeness and an unwillingness to assist, while my search for the retainer revealed that the rooms were inadequately maintained and lacked cleanliness. It is highly likely that the management will respond to this review by claiming they did everything possible, as Bibiana had previously mentioned, “these things happen.” However, it is crucial to remember that it is not the owner enduring the stressful dental emergency during what was supposed to be a relaxing holiday.
Spare yourself the manipulation and disappointment by choosing alternative...

Review: My recent stay at this 4-star hotel with my daughter has left me deeply questioning the true meaning of a "four-star" rating. We encountered an inexcusable event during our stay when the housekeeping staff disposed of my daughter's orthodontics, despite them being placed in a glass of bright blue water. While I understand that accidents can happen, it's disheartening that the housekeeper acknowledged the presence of the glass but claimed to have poured it down the sink. This explanation doesn't add up since the retainer would have been in the sink if that were the case. It seems more plausible that the housekeeper violated protocol and disposed of it in the toilet.
However, what truly shocked me was the way the owner, Bibianna, treated us when she finally addressed the incident, two days later. Instead of taking responsibility for the mistake, she suggested that my daughter might have been mistaken about putting the retainer in the solution and insinuated that it was her fault for it going missing. I couldn't believe that Bibianna refused to acknowledge the housekeeper's fault in this matter. It almost seemed as if she was implying that the retainer never existed and that the blue solution in the cup was merely a facade. To add insult to injury, she suggested that we pray to a saint for the retainer's safe return.
To make matters worse, upon checking out, Bibianna offered a meager 10% discount (approximately $150). This offer is a far cry from the actual replacement costs, the hassle of finding a new orthodontist in Los Angeles, and the weeks of my daughter being without a retainer. This level of customer service falls far short of what one would expect from a four-star establishment.
It is evident that the hotel's claim of providing four-star service is questionable, given the lack of accountability, dismissive attitude, and inadequate compensation offered in response to this incident. I strongly advise considering alternative accommodations when visiting Selva, as there are plenty of other four-star...
