Camp site with a really great view. You can camp right next to the river mouth with spectacular views of the mountains around and the beginning of the lake. It's spacious and has many green areas, it feels a bit like a nice park next to the river. A nice little café to sit outside and a large field and small beach is right next to the camp site. The camp site also has got pool, supermarket and a restaurant. When we were there, it was pretty quiet. Warm showers are free as well as the WiFi which works in many areas of the camp site. They also offer wooden huts, some of them are located just behind the camper vans also offering nice views of the scenery. The next hut is a bit away, so you've got more privacy than at other camp sites we've seen.
The very relaxed kitesurfing spot next to the surf school is only 4 to 5 minutes by foot away. You can also see it from the camp site. Right next to the camp site is JC Surf School.
But it also has many minuses.... The showers and toilets are clean, which is really good but they're also old. They have one building for toilets and showers, but it's at the other end of the camp site. If you stay at the lake, you'll have some minutes to walk. The showers and toilets close to the lake are all in one line in a small and old shed. You can hang your clothes and towels over the swinging doors. There are no separate showers or toilets for men or women. If you leave the toilet or shower cabin, you're outside in mid air, meaning there's no extra building.
Cleaning the dishes is also only outside, either along the wall needing behind the restaurant building, behind the sanitary building or in the middle of a field, next to the toilet and shower cabins. Washing up in sunny weather is nice, but when it rains you're soaking wet. Same as when taking a shower. When you leave the shower in rainy weather, you'll be wet, too...
The management also didn't leave a good immersion impression. Every time we saw him, the owner seemed very grumpy and rather unfriendly. Also other people had this impression. I also overheard a discussion where guests were denied getting the offered discount when they had arrived.
For the pool you need bathing caps.
In general, the facilities look old and worn out, it seems like the owner doesn't want to invest in the camp site.
If it wasn't for the great views and the nice location next to the river mouth as well as the proximity of the kite spot, we would definitely stay at another camp site. Two stars for the view and the location... We think that it is no good value...
Read moreWe were two families of four adults who rented two tiny bungalows at Camping Au Lac,Como in August 2013. We had a low budget and opted to try this camp. The bungalows had the bearest equipment but were very clean and practical. One room which slept four and a small veranda which also served as a kitchen and dining area. It had a fridge, gas stove and sink but no bathroom. This was no problem as the bathrooms were only forty meters away and were kept very clean at all times. The staff at this camp were always very friendly even though they were always busy with many chores of the day. The food in the restaurant is worth every penny and you can eat dinner like a king for only €12 a head. The camping area for caravans and tents is situated right next to the lake and has a lot of shade and beauty. There are also bigger bungalows to rent with bathrooms at very reasonable prices. This is a perfect base to visit and explore the rest...
