This place is straight out of a fairytale.
If we could we’d give this place 10 stars out of 5. 😊 Della Fortezza Hotel is undeniably one of our favorite places we’ve ever stayed at, not just in Italy, but in the whole world. We only stayed one night, and immediately wished we had more time here.
The hotel is a historic monument, an old fortress from the 12th century that’s been renovated and now have 16 rooms. An incredible special place to stay, not just your typical hotel.
The hotel is full of charm, the area and view from the hotel is simply breathtaking. You can see the whole city from both your bedroom - and the hotel terrace that’s free for the hotel guests to use.
The hospitality here is utterly fantastic. The owners and staff are so welcoming - making us really feel at home. ❤️ They get to really know their guests, give recommendations, and have managed to create a truly charming and personal space. You sense the warmth from the moment you check in and throughout the whole stay.
The place and whole city is so tranquil and you really feel at peace here. The whole area is a gem. Plus - it’s only a 40 minute car ride from the free beautiful thermal baths, Cascate del Mulino di Saturnia.
It’s obvious how much love and hard work the owners have put into the place, the hotel and the restaurant are both excellent. We loved the hotel breakfast as well.
Really can’t recommend this place enough; if you choose it, you’re in for an enchanting stay. We will definitely be coming back.

Read moreDal momento che abbiamo messo piedi in questo incantevole luogo, abbiamo capito che i nostri due giorni sarebbero speciali. Adesso scrivo in inglese: a wonderful welcome from Silvia started us off along the right path. This place is incredible and we enjoyed every minute of our two-day stay. Our room was superbly furnished and the bed really comfortable. The breakfast, with fresh fruit, yoghurt, ricotta, cakes etc etc (and eggs and bacon etc if wanted) was probably the best breakfast we have had in an Italian hotel and we have travelled extensively! What a setting - overlooking the amazing rooftops and views of the mountains - I had to keep pinching myself I wasn't dreaming. We also went on a night walk of the Via Cave (the hollowed walkways), with Lorenzo, an excellent guide recommended by our hosts and learned more about the Etruscans. Highly recommended! We repeated it the following day on our own and discovered extra caves below the viewing point. The restaurant run by the owners: Fidalma, is wonderful too. Delicious food with local produce. The walk back up the hill was necessary to walk off some of our greediness. I could go on and on - suffice it to say that this is one of the best places we have ever stayed in and we really want to return. Thank you for such a great place that you have created with obvious love and dedication. And it is truly great value. Torneremo l'anno prossimo e rimarremo per piu giorni. Grazie, grazie, grazie. (I know I sound over the top, but it truly is a wonderful...
Read moreLovely looking fortress, high on the hills of Tuscany. Not good for people with difficulty in walking. Friendly staff. Room was very sweet, small but fantastic views of the town below. No air conditioning which was needed as very hot weather, we had a fan blowing which was very noisy at night. The breakfast was okay, rather bland to what we have experienced previously in hotels in Italy, charge extra for omelettes. Beverages only available from 8am to 8pm. After which time there are no amenities to have a drink. Room tea and coffee making is not available, even when asked though there is a small fridge in the room. Sorano is pretty but so venture away to the lake which is amazing and other towns, one in particular is Orvieto near to Lake Bolsena. Would have liked to have heard and seen more of the history of the hotel/fortress but there are no old photos or written history, just that it produced wine.. must have been more to this building. Felt that the manager was trying to market the wine, water, olive oil that is all branded under the same name. We did eat in the restaurant linked to the fortress but were unimpressed, there are other tastier options locally, the restaurant next to pizzeria was amazing, especially if you can get a table outside. I would not return to the fortress nor would I recommend. Needs air conditioning and more staff, quite a let down as it could be an amazing place with more...
