Situated between 2 rail stations, getting to the hotel requires driving or taking a cab. Free public parking slots available outside hotel but no guarantee of getting one upon arrival. Check-in on ground floor which is not on road level but requires climbing about 10 steps. No escalator nor lift available. Unfortunately there was no attempt by any hotel staff to help carry the luggage up the stairs! The hotel is definitely not suitable for the handicapped or the weak.|Traditional Japanese and guests are mostly Japanese. In general hotel and room both look rather tired and will benefit from some maintenance. Fortunately straw floor mats in our room seem new.|There is no private spa in the hotel and only 2 rooms on the top floor has a in-room spa on the balcony. All rooms have open ocean view for sunrise - the main selling point; but we did not see any due to poor weather. The open air public spa on the top floor has running hot spring water but it feels more like a regular hotel pool and not much flare for an onsan. The beach onsan which the hotel advertised to have access was closed due to typhoon flooding earlier.|The Japanese dinner is nice and much better than expected. Service in the dinning room are very good but just so-so at the reception. |It is not expensive but you get what...
Read moreWe stayed in the Hokkawa Onsen Hotel for 3 nights and it was absolutely wonderful.
The traditional room was clean, spacious and very beautiful. The atmosphere of the hotel was very calming and relaxed. The onsens were really pretty, clean and perfectly organized.
Even thought not a lot of staff members spoke English, we all managed to communicate. The service in general was always polite and helpful.
The food was amazing and so much! They even added a few more western dishes to our breakfast to accommodate us a little more. We really loved it and the chef always made sure we liked everything!
The location is absolutely stunning. Jungle like forests and a beautiful coast. The train tracks are easy to reach. And with the train you can go to the other villages around which was so nice.
We really loved staying here and would...
Read moreWe stayed at the top floor of main building. There are only two rooms each floor and only the top floor provide private hot spring in its balconies.||The view from the rooms is such photogenic that you are simply stunned.||The hotel itself shows some ageing effects here and there and there is not so much stuff to do. So the main focus is hot spring and foods.||There is also onsen on the beach that hotel guests have free access.||It's worth while waking up early and enjoy sunrise on the outdoor onsen on the top of the main building or...
