We stayed at Tsukiyo no Usagi the night before our wedding at Izumo shrine and it was a wonderful experience. The staff was warm and welcoming, although we did have to take our own bags to our room which is a little unusual in my experience. The entire hotel is covered in tatami mats so you walk around barefoot or in socks (they provide a pair of tabi for each guest). The room was spacious for a Japanese hotel and everything was as clean as it could be. There was even a little coffee grinder to make coffee ourselves in the morning. The futons were comfortable and despite the small foyer in the room it was very quiet. The dinner buffet was fantastic. We stuffed ourselves on tempura, beef, and other assorted dishes. My favorite was the apple pie which I must say is the best I have had in Japan. The highlight of our stay was absolutely the different onsen. There are two group onsen for each sex and five private onsens of different styles. We tried most of them during our stay. They do a midnight ramen that started at 2130 which was nice. The ramen isn't great but since the ramen is served right next to the onsen so it's nice to be able to take a dip in several of the different onsen and grab some ramen in-between. All-in-all it was a great experience and one of my favorite hotels I've stayed...
Read moreFrom walking in, to walking out, the service was wonderful. The staff immediately put you at ease. Sitting you down and serving tea and a light snack. The hotel opened late December 2017, everything is clean and new, the design is traditional with all the modern amenities you could hope for. As some other posters have mentioned, the value is incredible. The package I paid for was about ¥23,000 (per person) for dinner, a room and breakfast. I left feeling like I had robbed them. There were too many extras to mention. Most notably, it included a tour of the shrine, (the main attraction in izumo) beyond normal access. There is a convenience store (family mart) opposite the hotel, it sadly didn’t sell alcohol at the time of my visit. The drinks aren’t very expensive in the hotel though, and there is a vending machine with beer and strong zero on (at least) the second floor if you want to chill in your room with a drink. The food was wonderful and there were good choices for local drinks (beer, nihonshuu etc).
Lastly, I would recommend flying to izumo rather than using the Shinkansen. Much...
Read moreWe stayed here as a family of 3. By far, the best hotel I've ever stayed. It's not a ryokan (traditional inn), but a "modern Japanese taste hotel." Everything was amazing! We were still jet lag, having only been in Japan for about 3 days, and my daughter fell asleep in the dining hall. They brought her blankets and pillows and it made us feel so valued and welcomed. The baths were clean and I especially loved the "kashikiri buro" (private use baths). They have popsicles ready for when you get out of the baths to cool down (my daughter still talks about it a year later!) I absolutely loved the tatami mats everywhere so that we could walk barefoot. They have coffee beans and a coffee mill in your room, so you can enjoy freshly ground coffee. I love those extra touches. I also loved that it was walking distance to the Izumo Taisha Shrine. We woke up early before breakfasts to pay our respects to the shrine, then enjoyed more bath time before breakfast. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Hands down, I would stay here again when...
