The manager Ken was wonderful. This is a real Japanese hostel with not many foreign guests, as not many foreigners visit Sawara. I was a bit worried about the floor beds in our private room at first, but they provided one of the most comfortable cozy nights ever. We stayed at other traditional Japanese sleeping hotels and always said they were not as comfortable as Coedo. It was of course spotless as everywhere in Japan and with a great location, nearest to the train station you could get with still being in "town". If you're not interested in Tokyo, but need a place near the airport, I would highly recommend this lovely town and this hostel. Also, it only costs about $10 to get here, so you can activate your JR railpass for the next day and not pay $38 to get into Tokyo and waste a day on the pass. (also if you can get through customs by 9am, Narita airport offers a free tour of this town, I highly...
Read moreI've never seen such a luxury HOSTEL. It's very clean and the owner is very friendly! The atmosphere is relaxed and pieceful. You have enough space to work during lying in the bed. The City Sawara is very beautiful. Many Old japanese buildings are surrounding the Ono-River. It's very nice to have a workout on the Tone River, which is very closed. You can have a nice view there. The value for money is very good! It's not that far from Narita Airport, so I would recommend you to visit that place after landing or...

Negatives: Noise is an issue. The doors are traditional Japanese paper doors, so they don't block sound at all. Other guests were in the kitchen since 6 am, throwing dishes around, making no effort to be quiet. Also, the curtain in the room doesn't block out light, so it's bright in the morning. Don't come to this hostel if you want...
