The four of us, (me, husband and two young adult sons), stayed one night in the traditional room with private hot bath, with half board.||||We found the hotel easily enough by catching the number 32 bus from number one bus stop outside Matsumoto station with the help of a map and directions from a lady at the tourist information centre in the train station.||||Upon arrival, the staff were expecting us and we were given tea and cake in the lobby whilst checking in. Our room was fantastic - two walls of windows and a private bath. I liked the complimentary towels in matching sponge bags!||||We had booked half board and the hotel was able to cater for me and my younger son's request for a vegetarian evening meal as we went a la carte. I had contacted the hotel beforehand and they had been very helpful. My older son and husband really enjoyed their set meal and me and my younger son ate from the buffet and ordered noodles. (We were impressed to see the chef making these from scratch in the restaurant!)||||The breakfast was fantastic - again, the hotel was able to accommodate our vegetarian request and my son and I were able to enjoy a wonderful Japanese breakfast.||||I was very impressed by the fact that the hotel manager refunded me nearly 9000 yen in cash the following morning as our vegetarian meal was much less expensive than the half board I had booked online. This was fantastic service!||||The gift shop in the hotel lobby is well worth a visit - some lovely things in there, reasonably priced.||||We also booked a session in one of the hotel's four private rooftop onsens, (free of charge) and really enjoyed this.||||I would like to thank the hotel and the manager for the care they took of us and the efforts they made to accommodate our dietary requests - our stay was wonderful and I wished I had booked two nights!||||I would stay again if we visit Matsumoto...

We had a very pleasant and relaxing stay of 1 night, inclusive of breakfast and dinner. We stayed in their traditional style Japanese rooms without a shower. The room is spacious and clean. The ambiance and aesthetic of the hotel were on point.

The food was unbelievably delicious and the presentation was mesmerizing. Love that they offered us an English menu with our names printed on it. Communication wasn’t an issue for us. The service was above and beyond. We had asked for one serving of dessert only because we were extremely full. They saved the other set for us to eat during breakfast and they actually served it to us during breakfast without any reminder!

Booking the private onsens was super easy. We got to use all 3 options during one night stay. The hotel was not very busy, so maybe this is why. They were individually unique and clean. They all include showers. Since booking them was so easy we didn’t use their public onsen.

We want to give a big Thank You to all the staff for making our stay very special and memorable. I highly recommend it to anyone who’s looking to see Matsumoto! Only 20 mins bus ride from the Matsumoto station!

A bus ride from Matsumoto station, this hotel had amazing service and lovely, comfortable & clean rooms. There were 5 of us so we were worried it would be cramped, but the room was big enough for all of us - with two separate toilet rooms & one shower room with two sinks. The staff were very accommodating to our needs, from moving meals to our room due to family sickness to providing cheaper bus coupons. They were also always friendly & welcoming. The food was delicious, traditional and accompanied by polite waiting staff. There was an authentic Japanese & tasty western choice for breakfast, and several options to choose for dinner. The onsens were very nice, well-kept and relaxing; with organised spaces for personal belongings. We were even offered private onsen rooms on the top floor for free, which felt special. Lastly, the staff were kind enough to stand outside in the cold just to wave goodbye to us after we waited and left on a bus. Highly recommend this hotel, we wanted to stay longer because it felt like a second home.

Tamanoyu Hotel is an excellent choice for those seeking a private, tranquil onsen experience in Japan. Private Onsen: This is the highlight. Each room features its own private onsen, offering unparalleled privacy and relaxation. You can truly unwind without feeling rushed or crowded. The hotel boasts a serene atmosphere, making it ideal for a relaxing getaway away from the hustle and bustle. A Lawson convenience store right next door is incredibly handy for snacks, drinks, or any forgotten essentials. Cons: rooms typically don't have private showers. You'll use the communal shower facilities within the onsen area, which is common for many Japanese onsen ryokans. However, these facilities are well-equipped with amenities. if a private, quiet onsen experience with the convenience of a nearby store is what you're after, Tamanoyu Hotel comes highly recommended.
