Casa Blanca is a cute small hostel right on one of the main streets. Easy to get to by tram or a 15 minute walk from the train station. Situated close to Chinatown, shopping mall and a short walk to the port. ||However, I was booked in for 3 nights and left after 2. Before I start talking about the actual bed, my bunk room was facing the front of the building so straight into the main road where there was constant traffic noise and shouting into the early hours. Whilst there is a privacy curtain across the side there isn’t at the bottom of the bed so I could see straight down into the other two bunks. Plus when they put there bed lights on it lit up all of our bunks. Not sure why they wouldn’t put a privacy curtain at the bottom of the bunk - it seems to be standard in Japanese hostels these days. There was some sort of blanket on the bed - I say some sort because well it looked more like a large towel.... ||So... the actual bed. The mattress on the bunk bed was a futon type mattress. I’m use to this in Japan but they are normally on the floor, not placed inside a bunk bed where it is clearly deep and should hold a normal mattress. I also had the bed that creaked terribly (if it had a firm normal mattress this probably wouldn’t have happened). Every tiny move I made it creaked loudly. The lady on the top bunk didn’t seem to appreciate this and started shouting at me. I know right?! I’ve never been made to feel so uncomfortable in a hostel. I packed my things first thing and found alternative accommodation and swallowed the cost of paying for one night in two...
Read moreI have been travelling in Japan, staying in hostels, for 5 weeks and this was the worst place I stayed. We had a double room which had a very uncomfortable mattress and we were only given a small blanket, which looked like a towel, to sleep with. But the worst part was how noisey and bright the room was. There were no curtains and although there were blinds on the window the lights from outside streamed in, the room looked on to a carpark which had a very bright automatic light going on and off all night. In addition the noise from the carpark and outside was very loud all night. The toilet and shower rooms were small but clean and adequate for a short stay. The staff were the least helpful I have come across, we asked for a restaurant recommendation where we could try the famous Nagasaki beef, not only did they have no clue where we should go, they looked surprised that we would ask such a question and we even got a couple of sniggers. In the end she handed us a leaflet for a restaurant about 20-30 metres from the hostel and told us to try there, however when we got there it was under renovation and had clearly been closed for some time. We could excuse the staff not knowing this if you couldn't actually see the restaurant from the hostel!
On a positive note it is in a very good location close to Chinatown and other...
