We specifically wanted to stay in hotels with onsen (public bath) only so as to unwind and relax after a long day of walking and shopping.
Candeo fits the bill in being accessible, affordable and well-placed to nearby malls and food places.
Summed up our stay in a few points:
PLUS points ☺️
Love the location, near to Chinatown but sadly, Chinatown is over-rated. Most of the shops are always mostly closed. Love that there is a convenience store and a pharmacy for shopping just downstairs. Staff was polite but not so attentive. Tram stop was right outside our hotel, about 4 mins walk and can bring us to the Dejima Wharf and Youme town. Even to the popular sights like Peace Park/Atomic Bomb Museum. Onsen area was good. They even have an outdoor pool which doesn’t make me feel so stuffy being in hot water, the view and cool breeze was super relaxing. Great location for some shopping if you walk to the other side of the hotel, there’s a mall with Cando and Starbucks. Can even catch the bus to Nagasaki Station which is better for those with big luggage then a tram (which can be cram and tight if crowded).
NEUTRAL OR MEH POINTS 😢
Had to get a tram from Nagasaki Station. It shld be an easy walk to the tram stop but there was renovation going on with huge luggage in tow, it was quite challenging to navigate around the road blocks. Although the tram stop (shinchi chinatown) was 5 mins walk to the hotel but it was challenging as we had huge luggage. Quite busy and packed during breakfast. Our rooms didn’t include breakfast and we bought a breakfast meal ticket for one day only. It was super crowded and the space was quite small and ill-suited to hold so many people I did highlight during booking and via communication with the hotel that it was my parents anniversary trip but no mention of it or special msg/gift was prepared. I mean it’s not a given but it would be a...

After a 7 hours trip on 4 different trains you’d think that once you arrive at the most expensive hotel in Nagasaki you’d get a similar experience. But that’s not the case.. to start with the reception is at the top floor which was a bit odd but didn’t really bother us. What bothered us was the chaos happening at the reception with a hoard of people not knowing where to go what to do etc etc and only one receptionist out of the three (including the manager) serving. Everything you might need for your stay you have to pick it up your self from a stand in front of the reception like a grocery store. Finally after we got someone’s attention and paid they gave us a paper with instructions for the hotel and the spa! Apparently people bearing tattoos are not allowed to enter!! Something they clearly need to state on their websites and booking sites and they don’t! You are also not allowed to use your phone or camera to take any pictures of the sky spa. We were very upset for the matter and asked to speak to a manager which refused to come and talk to us and then gave the excuse of not speaking English! I mean how come and the staff below the manager position speak fluently English and she doesn’t ? When we ask for a refund they tried to bargain with us by saying “ you can use the spa if there is no people “ “you can go late at night” . What on earth is that? Trying to hide your guests? And to finish off after finally getting refund there was no apology whatsoever not even goodbye! Excellent...
