5 stars - I would plan a future vacation around the chance to eat here again. (Read More)
Totally unique to Nagasaki, totally worth it. Small restaurant that seats approx. 20 pax. We got there about 20mins before opening, 2nd group in line. Those who came at opening had to wait for 2nd seating. Long queue that went round the corner by the time we finished our meal.
Nothing quite like it. Very flavourful broth, full of umami. Great texture to the eggplant. Gyoza were small (bite sized) but tasty. Probably can skip and save your stomach space for street snacks after your vegetarian lunch.
In typical ramen shop fashion, order at a machine before being seated. English language ordering available. There are options to top up eggplant, spinach, and bean sprouts. Would get an extra portion of eggplant next...
Read moreThought I'd check out the famed tomato ramen while in Nagasaki for dinner. Came around 7:45pm, waited 20mins for solo dining (approx 5 people in front of me). Line moves quick, so if you see a line, don't fear a long wait.
Loved the classic Japanese style open kitchen with individual ramen seating. Flavour-wise though, personally, the tomato broth was reminiscent of a bolognese sauce (may be what they were going for), rather than a fresh tomato base soup, which I didn't enjoy as much, but perhaps had different expectations. They also forgot to add meat to my ramen. The eggplant on top was DELICIOUS though, and definitely my favourite part - would recommend ordering additional eggplant!
Overall, wouldn't come again for the tomato ramen but would be interested in trying their classic...
Read moreWow - so happy we ate here. The tomato ramen is delicious and contrary to what one may presume, it was quite refreshing and light. It wasn’t heavy at all. The inclusion of vegetables was appreciated and I am glad I ordered bean sprouts as an extra. The egg was cooked perfectly so I recommend that as well. The pork belly is fairly thin so don’t expect thick pieces. The eggplants are good but I personally wouldn’t do the extra option.
Kiosk for ordering and there is minimal service interaction. This place is good for solo eaters because of the bar setup.
We arrived at ~11:30 on a Monday and there was no wait. A line started forming after we began eating, probably because of the...
