We have stayed at this location as a party of two, and from the very beginning we have been met with great professionalism and care from the owner, especially considering that this is an Airbnb. The instructions were clear enough and Rin has been very kind and accommodating.
Check-in & Safety As some others point out the check-in procedure does not inspire as much confidence as it should. The front doors remain unlocked at all times and the room is unlocked when you first arrive. I understand that this is a convenient arrangement for the owner and is likely safe enough on the surface, considering that neither the building nor the room doors particularly advertise the fact that they remain unlocked, thus mostly relying on the goodwill of locals and the fact that this information isn't openly disclosed on the airbnb listing. Unfortunately online reviews do mention this fact; including myself; which makes this place an easy target.
That being said, the area is fairly quiet and does not seem particularly dangerous especially given the light foot traffic. Furthermore, this approach to check-in did make it particularly convenient considering our late arrival. After you retrieve the key the room can remain locked and thus just as safe as any flat would be in an open building. The common spaces are additionally equipped with security cameras, however it wasn't made clear whether the footage is reviewed in any way. I'd err on the side of caution and treat this as a deterrent more than anything else.
Ultimately the decision is yours as to whether you would feel safe with such an arrangement. We spent around a week here and never felt unsafe though as mentioned earlier the first impressions did not inspire confidence.
The Stay The room itself is exactly as advertised. As is standard, the rooms look bigger in photos than they really are, but that is to be expected. The room was big enough for the two of us and considering the bed loft, ceilings were pretty high making the room feel quite large even if floor space was limited. The room is equipped with all the basic amenities that you could expect: A bathroom with a sitting tub + shower, hairdryer, mini-fridge, kettle, Television, Couch, Side table and coffee table (ground floor), and a wide mattress on the loft suitable for two.
Note 1: The Smart tv had an active Netflix subscription for the room which was a very pleasant surprise and shows how much Rin cares for their guests. Additionally, I'd like to point out that the tv has an unused hdmi port for those who like to provide their own entertainment (I often take advantage of this so I like to point it out whenever I can).
Note 2: The coffee table was appreciated but did take up a lot of the space and while we did use it, it was in the way most of the time. Furthermore the room doesn't have a wardrobe so being forced to use the luggage-wardrobe approach meant that the room was quite difficult to traverse. It wasn't a huge issue for us as we're quite used to smaller places however may be a valuable note for some.
Note 3: One of us slept on the couch while the other on the bed. Both were comfortable but the loft notably warmer despite using the AC, you can't cheat physics! A fairly comfortable sleeping temperature could be achieved for the loft but only at the cost of making the room a walk-in fridge.
Note 4: As mentioned the couch was perfectly comfortable for sleeping and in fact I believe that it has a regular mattress as the foam, however we couldn't find suitable sheets and duvet cover for the additional provided duvet. I'm certain that Rin would have provided them upon request but we were satisfied with using the two blankets we brought with us as it was too hot for a...
Read moreThis is a loft studio unit, located in Shin-Osaka area. It takes you around 5-10 mins walk to Shin Osaka Station and Subway Midosuji Line (Red color), which can easily transfer to shopping areas, including Umeda, Numba or Dotonburi. The room has 1 sofa bed and 1 futon on the loft, which we found a bit difficult to climb up stairs to sleep, so we ended up sleep on the sofa bed which is not that comfortable.
The bathroom is with bathtub but the water flow is quite too slow to make the fill-in. The toilet has the automatic spray but in our room it seems not to work well.
The facilities downstair are ok with kitchenette, small oven, microwave and they also provide paper plates, paper cup, forks, spoons and drinking water. There is a wahsing machine but you need to bring the washing powder so again, we ended up using the coin washing machines in the neighborhood. They don't clean your room during the stay, and no towel changes as well.
Overall, I think the price for this place is reasonable for the Japan's Golden Week, which other hotel places were too pricey and fully booked but I will choose some other hotels with the full services for...
Read moreApartment was very clean, pretty comfortable, just note the loft bed is quite small for two adults, and if you have heat on it gets VERY warm upstairs (heat rises and all that). I ended up sleeping separate from husband on downstairs fold out. Also pictures and description is misleading, the kitchen is actually a separate space off main hallway and shared with another unit, not really a big deal, we were not in there much and didn't see anyone else. Yes kitchen stays unlocked as does the front hallway door but everything is super safe, apartment itself where you sleep locks. Shared washing machine too (does not dry), this was our halfway point so we did laundry, laundromat closeby for drying. We knew location would be far from the main hub of Osaka, what we didn't know is the subway stops at midnight so just keep that in mind if going to Dotonbori at night. Kita ward was pretty close via train and we kinda preferred it anyway for evenings, SUCH good food, great...
