Guesthouse Fūga — Hotel in Semboku

Quite a distance from station (good 15-20 minute walk, no bus, otherwise taxi). Located on right hand side of road between Ando House and Uchikawa bridge in south west of town (nowhere near castle as stated in details!). Bad soundproofing from next room (thin plywood walls) also some noise from owner's dogs; shower in garage, might be a cold experience in winter. Our room was bright and pleasant but sparsely furnished. No table or communal seating area. We have been in Japan for 2 months staying at all types of accommodation; this was the only Japanese guesthouse that charges to rent a towel (none provided) ! One would expect a free towel for a room with shared facilities at £62 per night! Owner requested our arrival time, which we gave to the minute, but place was deserted on arrival. Very unusually for Japan no passport or ID was later requested. In view of the distance, an offer to pick up guests from station would be a bonus. Without this facility and for the above reasons this accommodation is not a good choice. Good restaurant and onsen short walk away, also tunnel of floodlit cherry trees along the river. My boyfriend and I stayed for a week in October 2019. This is basic but very comfortable accommodation. As the rooms in the main house were all booked, we stayed in the dorms behind the main house. The bunk beds were very comfortable and big! There are heaters provided for when it turns chilly and really warm duvets / blankets provided. The dorms are also on the same level as the shared bathroom facilities. There is now a new shower room with excellent pressure and lots of hot water! Even though we were sharing these facilities with other guests, there were no issues with availability and everything was kept very clean. ||This guesthouse is also part of a restaurant and the food is excellent! ||We had a hire car and there is parking on site. There are also bikes for guests to use. ||All in all we had a great stay here and enjoyed...

This was a cozy stay for us. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We appreciate the complimentary tea, coffee, and water. The host was extremely nice and helpful. We loved the free bike rentals which were great for riding around town. The only negative is the shower situation. Unfortunately the shower is inconveniently located in another building which is the only bummer especially on a cold day but the shower itself is nice and the water was nice and hot. I also think there is only 1 shower. Luckily there was just another person there when we stayed so it didn't pose a problem for us. We would definitely stay here again and...
