We spent the night here on our Kumano Kodo pilgrimage. Check in is at 3pm. Check out the town before coming over and also take the time to visit the town's grocery store if you need food for dinner or breakfast the next morning (it closes around 6pm).||||We were welcomed and shown to our room. Spacious and new, very clean, very comfortable futons and yukatas to wear while hanging out. Bath areas separated into men and women. Very spotless! Western style toilets.||||The best parts of our stay were the hosts and also the amazing food they prepared for dinner and breakfast. I'm dreaming of it still! Delicious grilled fish (cooked on the coal fire beside the table) and so much more. See the pictures I've uploaded.||||I knew this minshuku would be good when I saw the tanuki figures outside the front door (I love tanuki and believe anyone else who does must be a good person!) but even I was surprised by how enjoyable our stay was here. Highly recommended!||||The hosts prepared a lunch packet for us to take the next morning with fresh (sweet) oranges and three different lovingly prepared and wrapped musubi.||||I'd walk the Kumano Kodo again just to stay here with them...

Read moreAmazing stay! Our hostess was so sweet and kind, our room was cozy and comfortable. The tatami setup was very nice, so were the bathroom and showering facilities. There's shampoo, conditioner and soap available for use, plenty of hot water and even a bath. There's a common kitchen and dining area where we hung out with fellow travellers. When our hostess saw we were making instant noodles for dinner, she came over and prepared them for us, setting a little timer so we'd know when they were ready (☺️).
The town of Chikatsuyu itself doesn't have that many restaurant options, so make sure you get to the grocery store before they close at 6.
