The best feature of this hotel are the rooms. Thoughtful modern design, still has a new feeling for the rooms with western beds and Japanese tatami sitting area. The hotel, although old, is nicely renovated and the staff in general are friendly and efficient. There was one English speaking staff who was very friendly and helpful on duty. The big disappointment, which to me is weighted heavily in the overall score, was the food. The dinner was buffet style, many dishes were lukewarm and likely cooked well in advance and the quality was below par for Japanese standards. There was also a distinct trend towards homestyle Chinese and basic Western style cooking. I would have preferred more refined Japanese or Japanese fusion instead. The other minor complaint was that our room, although with a mountain and harvourview, also faced the carpark, which was a mixed disappointment.

We arrived a bit late in the middle of dinner time. The owner was nice enough to let us have dinner first before check in. Another staff also showed me where to park as it was quite full. The buffet dinner and breakfast were quite nice. However, when you book the hotel room, please pay attention if the room contains a bathroom!!! Our room does not have one so you must go to the public bath for shower. Besides, I wonder if only some of the rooms are renovated, as our room looks a bit outdated. The sea view is only partial which is a bit disappointing.

This is a nice hotel in general. It’s a bit old building but it’s clean. The food is good too. We got the upgraded dinner and it was a course-like dinner. They bring you the dishes and explain the contents to you (all in Japanese). The beds are OK and the view from the window is fantastic! The onsen is free to use and as long as you want; some extra good stuff: they offer shuttle service from and up to Toba Station (reservation is needed).

All staff were very kind and very helpful even with a big language barrier! The hotel atmosphere is enjoyable and the spa is very good and clean. The place is abit out of so they provide shuttle buses to and from Toba bus Station, always right on time but you have to know it is a 'start early and finish early' type of day if you rely on these shuttle buses to move about. It is an old hotel and genrally well kept, just a few bits and bobs that could need deeper cleaning but sanitary wise completely satisfying. Buffet breakfast and dinner is very varied and tasty. View from bedroom...
