Midori-yu — Hotel in Wakkanai

5 stars but mainly for the kindness. There are 2 options, the riders’ house and the guest house (I did both in different days since I went to Reshiri and Rebun islands for 2 days). The first come for 1800 yen per night and it is fine if you just want a roof over your head, a bit problematic for those who don’t like smoke because at the ground floor it’s smoking free and you can smell it at lot in the upper floor where the beds are. But the atmosphere there is nice, warm and friendly. The main event is the meeting with the self presentation at 9 pm. The latter comes for 2500 yen. Better beds, less smokey (but still a bit) and I was alone since it was a Monday of late June. The good thing is that there is everything you need there. A small public bath that comes for 430 yen and a cheap restaurant. Also a Seikomart 2 min walking from the hostel. Recommended for one or two...

When we came the weather was nasty. Snow mixed with rain and 42 kilometer winds. We were soaked to the bone and freezing. She got us right in front of a heater and settled in for the night even though it was only noon. It was warm and dry and full of nice people. It was quiet after 2300. There was also the 2100 meet and great and song. It was fun! Slept great and was happy to be someplace warm and dry for the night. Highly recommend if you are spending a night in the area. Can’t beat the 2000 yen a person price.
