I've owned a 50-bed hostel in the US for five years, traveled to 50 countries, and stayed in countless hostels. I've never received the level of hospitality I received at the Hakaia Community Hostel. There's nothing the two brothers and owner-operators Mohammed and Bahaa would not do for their guests. The first to bring hostel culture to Aqaba, the brothers make Hakaia an easy choice -- and the only choice -- for your adventure basecamp in Jordan. The brothers are well connected and happy to facilitate your excursions safely, reliably, and affordably as well as providing other helpful tips like authentic local cafes and traditional food-drink and zero-fee atm cash machines. The hostel building is across the street from the main bus station and only a short walk from everything in Aqaba. The hostel offers clean and spacious dorm rooms, big storage lockers, hot water, air conditioning, high-speed internet, fresh and hot hummus, pita, and falafel breakfast, 24-7 tea and filtered water, a clothes washing machine and outdoor drying rack, lots of community space, and above all, unmatched service. If you understand what "community" means, you'll feel it immediately when you enter. The brothers tell me "hakaia" means "stories" and that's the real value here -- connecting with other travelers and making memories. That's what I did here anyway and I didn't even need to try. If you stay a while, you'll realize this isn't by chance. The brothers built it into the foundation of...
Read moreIt can’t be overstated how incredible this hostel really is. And it starts with the owners Mohammed & Baha’a.
As I was traveling thru Jordan, countless other travelers had recommended me to stay here and specifically mentioned these two by name as the reason. Well, I originally planned to stay for 5 days and ended up staying for almost 2 weeks.
They are so kind, they treat you like family and make sure you feel at home. They invited me to eat with them, go to the beach with them, take a road trip with them.
Because of their welcoming vibes, it attracts many others cut from the same cloth. I can’t tell you how many special friendships were cultivated in the walls of Hakaia during my stay there and how many wonderful memories were created for all of us.
I’ve been to a lot of hostels, but this one holds a special place in my heart and I plan to return just to hang out with these two great souls.
And yes, the beds are comfy, best pillows ever, showers are hot and good pressure, rooftop sunsets are incredible, Calado the cat is the best, delicious free tea all day and the breakfast will have you ready to crush your day, or take a nap on a hot day. This is THE place to...

I spent 7 days backpacking Jordan and Hakaia Community was by far my favourite hostel as a solo traveller. It's not a huge place but it feels very homely and it is conveniently located. All rooms are super clean, they are spacious and beds have privacy courtains, reading lights and power outlets. All facilities are strictly non-smoking which was important to me.
Even in Ramadan, Baha and Mohammed offered great breakfast which was also super delicious and nicely presented. The hostel also has lockers, snorkeling gear and a free shelf. There is also a co-working space for those working remotely. Just great.
I want to thank Bahaa and Mohammed for their hospitality and helpful advice. We chatted a bit about my co-working space and life in Malta, but sadly I didn't have a chance to say goodbye and thank you for the lentil soup before I left for Amman. It was really nice to meet you and I regret not staying in Aqaba another night. I look forward to coming to Aqaba again and to see your original hostel. This is what a hostel should look...
