Pros|We wanted to visit Petra at 6am on both days so asked for breakfast to be ready at 5.30am (which is pretty early) and Receptionist 1 has it ready both days.|Needed to find a laundromat and Receptionist 2 drove us to two (which were both unfortunately closed at the time) which was nice of him.|Location is far from the Petra site (if walking) but central to the city.|||Cons |My friend booked this place and arrived there before me. Receptionist 1 barely understands English and was the one who checked her in and she had a trying time checking in.||Once she checked in and got to the room, my bedsheet was dirty and she asked them to change it. They didn’t understand and took the pillow away. A lot of gesturing from her got the message across and they changed the sheet. ||Next, her towel was dirty and she asked them to change it. They gave her a minuscule one instead but she was too tired to complain. I give her the one they gave me and told her I’ll get the other one changed. When she finally used it, she got a bad rash from it.|There is no wifi in the room. Apparently the wifi in the rooms across the halls works.|I go to the bathroom and the commode is filthy. ||Go down to the reception enumerate the issues to Receptionist 2. He switches the minuscule towel, tells me he’ll put the wifi point in our floor and then comes to check the bathroom. Looks at it and asks if we want to change the room. I say that our only issue is that the toilet bowl is dirty. He shows us another room and asks if it’s ok. Since it’s a bigger room, I ask if it’s the same price and he confirms. He helps us move our bags.||There is no water in the bathroom in this second room. He moves us to a third room. No water here either. Tells us he’ll get the water fixed but it’ll take about an hour. We are ok with it. Comes back in 15 minutes and says it’ll take longer and moves us back to the original room. I agree to move on the condition that that toilet is cleaned. He nods. Wait around for hours and it’s not cleaned. Go back down and ask again. He asks me again if I want to change the room. I tell him again that the cleanliness is the issue.||My friend goes to have a shower and finds out that the water is now not working in our bathroom too. She tells the receptionist who sends some repair people over. One of them has a chat with me and it takes me a while to realise that he’s probably the owner and not one of the repair people. He apologised for the water issue and says it’s because the hotel is full. I show him the toilet bowl and explain to him that the original issue was that it’s filthy and we can’t use it. He calls both receptionists over and speaks to them. I assume it will be sorted. It’s not.||Go back down in a while and asks for it to be cleaned. Again. Receptionist 2 says it’s hard to clean and switches our room. This bathroom is bearable. ||Wifi is still not working and this time I ask my friend to go and check. She comes back with the wifi spot! Hooray!||My friend is staying an extra night but had apparently booked a dorm (it wasn’t clear that it was a dorm as it says quadruple room in Booking.com). Receptionist 1 says she’ll have to change the room but there is no decision on his part yet. I get back from visiting the Petra site before her and ask Receptionist 1 about my friend’s room for the night. He says she can stay in the same room. Message her and leave.||I find out later than when she got back there was no wifi so she didn’t see my message. Receptionist 1 asked her to switch the room to a dorm and share with another girl and she agreed. When she got to it, the bathroom was dirty (again!) and she told them they should clean it when guests move out. Receptionist 1 had wet his hands and wiped the basin down with his bare hands. After all this she sees my message and was livid! ||My friend was sitting in the lobby when she realised that Receptionist 1 was holding his phone at the level of her face. She asked him what he was doing and he asked if he can take a picture of her. She said no. If she hadn’t checked he would have sneakily taken the picture without her knowledge.||Avoid this...
Read moreAs other reviews might hint to: this is far below average. The only reason Elgee still is in business is because of the high demand in the area. We were two couples staying here, and we are NOT picky when it comes to hotels.||Story: we arrived late afternoon, booked for two nights. When we checked in the rooms reeked so hard of newly sprayed perfume that you got a headache by being in the room. The bedside drawer in one of the rooms were full of squashed old sigarettes. Nothing had been cleaned, and the bathrooms looked worse than the outdoor toilets in Petra.|After one night we had had enough, and decided to skip the last night. Upon coming back after a day in Petra we realized that leaving your key at the counter (normal in every hotel i've been in) supposedly are a signal for "We're moving out, don't bother about the last night We're booked."|When we talked to the manager about moving out because of dirty rooms, he wanted us to show him. Upon opening the doors to our rooms we realized that new people had moved in - in both rooms.||We asked for our money back for the last booked night, and even on seeing that the rooms were occupied by others, the manager were reluctant to give a refund.||Long story short: Elgee has is dirty and has no control whatsoever. If you have no other choice, at least bring all your valuables with you, DO NOT leave it...
Read moreIf you stay at Elgee or not, you can try to eat at Elgee restaurant. At the time I was here as it was low season, it was one of the very few opened places in Petra which served beer. You can buy Heineken and Petra beer here. The second one I recommend only to try, but Heineken is of course better. They also have some whiskey like Jack Daniels and smth else.||||Elgee`s restaturant also serves several dishes which are quite tasty. In spite of that fact that Petra is populat touristic place, at low season you can have some problems with finding adequate place to live and dining, so Elgee hotel & rest. is quite good choice (the level of service is average for hotels for the price...
